Building your own stadium is a dream for fans of Flamengo, and with the recent purchase of the Gasometer land, the candidates for the club's presidency are committed to presenting proposals that boost their campaigns before the election, scheduled for December 9th. Luiz Eduardo Baptista, 'Bap', revealed in an interview with Flow Sport Club the desire to have Fabricio Chicca on the stadium planning team.
Bap states that it already has a robust team, made up of renowned professionals in the sector, to move forward with the project at Gasometer, but would like to add Chicca to the team, if he is elected president.
“I have several work fronts with me, we have people who worked on the Olympics process here in Brazil and the World Cup , there are people who worked on the construction of six arenas, and there is also a guy that I really like that we, winning, we will definitely bring in as a consultant, the Fabrício Chicca”, he begins.
Chicca and the vision of a red-black stadium
Bap believes that Fabricio Chicca can add anauthenticand assertive vision of what a Flamengo stadium needs to have. Architect, teacher and tactical analyst, Chicca is responsible for the channel Mundo na Bola and has been debating the subject extensively in recent months. One of his proposals is that the stadium should be intimidating for opponents, more than beautiful or cozy.
“I understand that Fabrício has fantastic experience of this, especially in terms of what a Flamengo stadium should be like. Flamengo has to have a stadium that is large, with a popular area. Let it have this acoustic part, let it be this cauldron thing”, explains Bap.
The concept of a 'modern Bombonera'
Bap mentions that he visited Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena and is thinking about incorporating European ideas into Flamengo's project. He also surprised by mentioning Bombonera, from Boca Juniors, expressing the desire for a stadium along the same lines, with a vibrant and intense atmosphere, but even bigger and more modern.
“I went to visit the Bayern Munich stadium, the manager who took me, arrived at one point, he said: 'To here, shout something there'. I shouted Mengo, of course (laughs). Empty stadium, impressive how you scream and hear what you are saying come back to you”, he comments.
“My dream would be to be a Modern Bombonera, go ahead. So I think this whole thing is very important, it’s very cool and Fabrício has an important contribution to make in this process”, he concludes.
Support from fans and journalists
Fabricio Chicca has been one of the main defenders of a stadium of its own for Flamengo, combining his technical knowledge with his passion for the club. His proposal has been gaining support among fans and the approval of some journalists, such as Mauro Cezar Pereira and Venê Casagrande, who see him as the ideal vision for this red and black project.
