Flamengo will probably be champion of the Taça Guanabara this Saturday (3), against Madureira, at Maracanã. A draw is enough for Tite's men to secure the single round of the Campeonato Carioca. The suburban tricolor is still playing for a place in the Rio Cup.

While this time there will be no direct dispute between Flamengo and Madureira, this was not the case the last time the two teams met in a Guanabara Cup decision. To remember, let's go back in time 17 years. In 2007, Flamengo and Madureira decided the cup in two games full of provocations. And Flamengo worked hard to secure the title.

It all started, in fact, in the fifth round. On February 17, Madureira scored a resounding 4-1 defeat at Flamengo. The surprising result was marked in the minds of the red and black players. The chance to payback came in the final two matches.

The problem is that Madureira's team had quality. It was filled with players who, years before, shone in the great Brazilian football leagues. Midfielder Djair, with spells at Flamengo, Fluminense and many other teams, was the star of the squad. But goalkeeper Everton, defender Odvan and striker Valdir Papel were also there. It wasn't a stupid team.

Flamengo lost the first game of the final

Flamengo in 2007 was starting the run that would end with the third state championship and, later with reinforcements, would win the Brazilian 2009. The squad included goalkeeper Bruno, Leo Moura, Juan, Renato Abreu, young Renato Augusto and Souza (the one with the chororô). Even so, it took a while to get going under the command of coach Nei Franco.

In the first game of the final, Alfredo Sampaio's men came out on top with a goal from Maicon. Counting the game in the classification phase, Madureira now “won” by 5-1. To make matters worse, Djair went on a television program and called Flamengo a “stupid team”. The stage for the final was set.

On March 7, 2007, Wednesday, the two clubs once again found themselves head to head. This time, Flamengo didn't give chance to chance. Souza opened the scoring in the first minute, but Leo Fortunato equalized after three. Good thing Souza scored again at eight and Renato Augusto added at 13. What a frantic start.

At the end, Renato Abreu closed the score with a penalty. During the celebration, Bruno provoked Madureira's bench and caused widespread confusion. Even so, Flamengo's title was assured, as was its place in the State final. Saturday, without a doubt, will be calmer.

Flamengo has formalized a proposal for goalkeeper Gabriel Brazão , Santos' standout player in 2025. According to information from UOL, Rubro-Negro offered seven million euros (around R$45 million) for 60% of the player's economic rights.

Despite the high price, Santos rejected the offer. The São Paulo club believes Brazão should only leave if a minimum offer of €15 million (approximately R$94 million) is met, a sum considered fair by the board to open negotiations.

WHAT DID GAZETA DO URUBU FIND?

According to Gazeta do Urubu , the Rio de Janeiro club has not yet made an official offer to the player. Sources within the board revealed that the player is being monitored, but there have been no official talks with the goalkeeper yet.

SANTOS HOLDS THE GOALKEEPER

Gabriel Brazão is in great form and has become one of the most highly valued goalkeepers in Brazilian football. In addition to Flamengo 's interest, European clubs are also monitoring the situation. Torino, from Italy, even submitted a R$64 million offer , which Santos also rejected.

Other giants like Chelsea, Galatasaray, and Porto are closely monitoring the player's progress , as he has played 33 matches this season. Santos' board, which recently loaned João Paulo to Bahia, is working to keep Brazão at least until the end of the year.
