The Brazilian Football Confederation ( CBF ) presented, this Wednesday (1), the official national football calendar for the 2026 season. Among the main changes are the reduction in the number of games in state tournaments, significant changes in the format of the Copa do Brasil and the anticipation of the start of the Brazilian Championship.
The measure aims to offer better competition conditions to clubs , including giants such as Flamengo, Palmeiras and Corinthians , which suffer from the excess of matches in the current Brazilian football calendar.
One of the most significant changes was the reduction from 16 to 11 dates for state championships. The new format calls for tournaments to be held between January 11th and March 8th , freeing up space in the calendar for other competitions and reducing the workload on athletes.
The Brazilian Serie A Championship will be brought forward to January 28th and is scheduled to end on December 2nd. The new development is that the initial rounds of the competition will run concurrently with the state championships, requiring extra attention from clubs competing in both competitions simultaneously.
The Copa do Brasil has also undergone changes. The first five rounds will be played as single matches, while the round of 16, quarterfinals, and semifinals will be home-and-away matches. The grand final will be a single match, at a neutral venue, on December 6th. The competition begins on February 18th, and Serie A clubs will only enter in the fifth round, guaranteeing one to three fewer matches for the top-tier teams.

Sesc Flamengo debuts in the Carioca Women's Volleyball Championship this Wednesday (1/10), at 8 pm, against Tijuca Tênis Clube, in Rio de Janeiro. The duel marks the return of coach Bernardinho, who was absent last week due to the death of his mother , Maria Ângela, shortly after returning from the Men's Volleyball World Championship.
The red-and-black team arrives on a high after winning the Taça Brasil in Londrina, aiming for its 20th state title. Despite the positive momentum, the coaching staff and athletes emphasize that there are still adjustments to be made to reach the desired level.
Libero and captain Laís celebrated the group's progress, but reinforced the need for focus at each stage of the tournament. "I'm very happy with our team's energy and dedication to each challenge. Winning the Taça Brasil was incredibly important for us to gain competitive rhythm . We're still in the early stages of the process, so each stage we win is incredibly valuable. But now it's all over again," she said before concluding.
Flamengo captain predicts duels: "Promises great matches"
" We know that the Campeonato Carioca promises to be a great match. Tijuca is very strong this year, and Fluminense is always a tough opponent. We'll go in focused on building our game, game after game, in pursuit of this title," he said. In the opening round, Tijuca defeated Fluminense in a tiebreak, showing that they will be a competitive opponent.

With the pause in the club calendar for the FIFA Date in October, Flamengo should take advantage of the period without games to focus on one of the main internal matters : the renewal of Arrascaeta's contract , the club's great highlight of the year.
The club had reached an agreement at the beginning of the year, but negotiations cooled in May. Now, the board is moving to resume talks with the number 10's representatives as early as next week. Arrascaeta has a contract with Flamengo until the end of 2026.
