Striker Wendel , 22, will be acquired permanently by Santa Clara. The Portuguese team, which competes in the local football elite, decided to invest after the player's good season, who belongs to Porto and was on loan. The financial operation will be worth 2 million euros (approximately R$11 million), an amount corresponding to 100% of the athlete's economic rights. The deal also involves other clubs that have shares in Wendel — among them, Flamengo, according to Venê Casagrande.
Today, the striker's rights are divided between three parties: 70% belong to Porto , the club that signed him in 2021; the other 30% belong to Leixões , a traditional team in the lower divisions of Portugal. And it is precisely in this second part that Rubro-Negro comes in. According to the contract signed at the time of Wendel's transfer to European football, Flamengo kept 20% of the 30% belonging to Leixões. In practice, this means that the Rio de Janeiro club has the right to 6% of the total negotiation.
With the sale being closed for 2 million euros, Flamengo 's share is equivalent to 120 thousand euros - a value that, at the current exchange rate, represents around R$ 750 thousand. The amount arrives as an important financial reinforcement for the red-black coffers at a time of intense movement in the transfer market.
Wendel left Flamengo while he was still in the youth ranks and never played for the professional team. However, as the club maintained a percentage of future sales, it secured a share in this indirect negotiation. The player stood out at Santa Clara throughout the last season and pleased the coaching staff, which led the Azorean club's board to exercise the purchase clause with Porto.
According to the Flamengo board, maintaining a percentage of athletes trained in the youth team or sold while still young has proven to be a successful strategy, precisely because of cases like Wendel. The policy has been adopted repeatedly in recent years. In addition to the amount to be received, Flamengo is closely monitoring the movements of other youth players spread across Europe, such as Reinier, Vinicius Souza, Rodrigo Muniz and Matheus França.
