Flamengo released, last Tuesday (10), an official note criticizing Estrela Amadora (POR) for not paying a debt related to the sale of athletes. The Portuguese club's stance generated indignation in the red-black board , which said it disapproved of the European team's attitudes.
Estrela Amadora on Bap and Flamengo: "The president of Flamengo and the club itself seem to consider themselves above the law"
Estrela Amadora's response was not long in coming. In an official statement, the Portuguese club repudiated Flamengo's public statement and even directly criticized the club's president, Rodolfo Landim, known as Bap.
“The president of Flamengo and the club itself seem to consider themselves above the law. In his view, clubs should not resort to the legal mechanisms at their disposal to defend their interests,” said Estrela.
“Here in Portugal, we believe in justice and respect for institutions . We do not place personal interests above sporting justice, nor do we use former partners as instruments of maneuver for internal political disputes,” the Portuguese club added, in a critical tone.
The controversy involves a debt of 2.5 million euros (around R$15 million) relating to the transfers of young players Igor Jesus and André Luiz, negotiated with Estrela Amadora in 2024. With the non-payment, Flamengo appealed to FIFA , which ruled in favor of the Rio de Janeiro club, determining the payment of the amount with interest and fine.
Even with Estrela appealing to the CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport), Flamengo is awaiting payment until June 29th — the deadline set by FIFA. The official statement published on the red-black networks was a reaction to the Portuguese club's attempt to postpone the agreement.
Interestingly, neither of the two players currently playing for Estrela Amadora . Midfielder Igor Jesus is at Los Angeles FC (USA), Flamengo's opponent in the Club World Cup, while striker André Luiz plays for Rio Ave (POR).

Flamengo and Giorgian De Arrascaeta are close to formalizing a new contract. Negotiations resumed in recent weeks and are expected to advance during the FIFA World Cup break. The agreement provides for a contract until December 2028 , with an automatic extension until 2029 if the player meets performance targets set by the parties.
The number 10 currently has a contract with the club until the end of 2026, but he has already expressed his desire to stay longer. Initially, the board didn't see any urgency in bringing forward the talks , but the Uruguayan's prominence this season led Flamengo to prioritize the renewal.
Negotiations began in February, were halted in May, and are now in their final stages. Executive director José Boto and businessman Daniel Fonseca, a former Uruguayan national team player , are leading the talks.
After a rocky start, when negotiations were postponed until 2025, there is now agreement and optimism between the parties. New meetings are expected to take place next week in Rio de Janeiro to finalize the contract details.
So far, Arrascaeta has 19 goals and 13 assists in 48 appearances for Flamengo in 2025 , numbers that confirm his role as one of the squad's key players. In 2019, the year of his debut with the club, he was directly involved in 37 goals (18 scored and 19 assists).
The first leg between the teams will take place at Maracanã on October 22, with exclusive tickets for fan club members and the general public.

Flamengo postpones the renewal of the number 1 until 2026, but intends to extend the goalkeeper's contract until 2028; the Argentine is in great form and seeks naturalization

Agustín Rossi remains one of the main figures in Flamengo's squad, but talks about a contract renewal are only expected to take place in 2026. The Flamengo board decided to postpone the negotiations, as the goalkeeper's current contract is valid until December 2027 , allowing for more relaxed planning for both parties.
Meanwhile, the Rio de Janeiro club has supported the athlete's naturalization process, as he seeks Brazilian citizenship. The board believes this step could make Rossi's personal life easier and contribute to roster planning , especially regarding the number of foreign players available.
At 30 years old, Rossi is considered a key player in Filipe Luís's team. In recent weeks, the Argentine goalkeeper has had standout performances, saving three penalties in Libertadores and Brasileirão matches. His performances have reinforced the confidence of the coach and the fans, solidifying him as one of the team's leaders.
Even though Flamengo is in no rush to renew, it is already planning to offer a salary increase and extend the contract until 2028. Internally, the good relationship between the player and the club is seen as essential for a future agreement without major impasses.
Flamengo will return to action on October 15th, after the FIFA World Cup break, in a derby against Botafogo in the 28th round of the Brazilian Championship. The match is scheduled for 7:30 pm (Brasília time) at Nilton Santos Stadium. The squad will have Monday off before resuming training.
