In his moment of greatest difficulty and contestation at Flamengo, due to the poor football presented in the last games, Tite will meet again, this Saturday, at 4pm, at Maracanã, Corinthians, a club with which he won practically everything he played for. The Brazilian Cup was missing. But this competition is on his CV and was won exactly over the team from São Paulo, in 2001, when he had no idea that he would become one of the biggest names in the history of Alvinegro do Parque São Jorge.
In 1997, until I had already played a prank on Corinthians when I was coaching Juventude. In a clash in the first phase of the Copa do Brasil, they lost 2-0 at Pacaembu, but returned the same score in Caxias do Sul and ended up eliminated on penalties. The position was won by the Corinthians with great difficulty. Tite's peak on a national level, however, would come in 2001. Hired by Grêmio, which he himself had beaten in the previous year's Gauchão final as coach of Caxias, Tite won the state championship again. The intense shine came in the final of the Copa do Brasil, on June 17, 2001.
Four months later, in the final stretch of the Brazilian Championship, Grêmio and Corinthians met again in a confrontation that brought together two members of the technical committee from Flamengo. Tite continued to lead Tricolor, while César Sampaio, now his assistant, made his debut as the Corinthians midfielder. The parish continued, and the four-time champion of the Copa do Brasil, with goals from Luís Mário and Cláudio Pitbull, once again defeated the team with the second biggest fan base in the country in Morumbi: 2 to 1.
The following year, still in knockout stage and this time at the beginning of the competition, in August, Grêmio and Corinthians faced each other at the Olímpico. Alvinegro once again had an established coach on the bench: Carlos Alberto Parreira. It was no use, and Rodrigo Fabri put on a show, with three goals, one of which came with a pen to Vampeta and a touch over Doni. Former Flamengo player Rodrigo Mendes closed the score in Porto Alegre: 4 to 0.
After his remarkable spell at Grêmio, Tite met Corinthians again in the return of the 2003 Brasileiro, this time ahead of São Caetano. Despite the difference in shirts, Azulão played a great role at the time and achieved a solid 3-0 victory at Pacaembu. Capixaba, Warley and Adhemar scored. Tite only lost to Corinthians on May 29, 2005, when he was managing Atlético-MG. The team led by Kia Joorabchian won 1-0, with a goal from Carlitos Tévez. The gaucho was under great pressure, as Galo had gone six matches without winning.
For Internacional de Porto Alegre, Tite started the clash with Corinthians in a promising way. In the first round of the 2009 Brazilian Championship, which would mark the conquest of Flamengo's sixth championship, the Colorados beat Ronaldo Fenômeno's Timão 1-0, on May 10th. A month later, however, in the Copa do Brasil decision, Corinthians came back, won 2-0 and won the Copa do Brasil trifecta in Porto Alegre with a 2-2 draw. Ronaldo was the man in the finals.
Tite's last clash against the club where he would become a legend years later took place in the 20th round of that same Brazilian Championship. At Beira-Rio, Chicão and Jorge Henrique secured the 2-1 victory. Although the last taste left in the mouth was bitter, Tite surpasses Corinthians in their overall record. There are seven wins, four defeats and two draws. To get out of the crisis, return to the top of the Brazilian Championship and reduce the pressure, the 62-year-old Gaucho needs this eighth triumph over the team with which he experienced his greatest joys in football.

The club expects to maintain defensive consistency even without its regular starter . The Argentine coach has emphasized in previous interviews the importance of maintaining tactical discipline to balance the match against Flamengo at Maracanã.
In attack, 27-year-old Colombian Edwuin Cetré is also out of the match in Rio de Janeiro. The forward suffered a grade 1 muscle injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg . He is expected to be available for the return leg on September 25th.

This Thursday (18), Flamengo begins the dispute of the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores against Estudiantes, at Maracanã. On the eve of the confrontation, the president and idol of the Argentine club, Juan Sebastián Verón, spoke about the expectations for the duel against Rubro-Negro.
During an institutional event in La Plata, Verón highlighted the financial difference between the teams , with Mengão being the team with the highest market value among the tournament participants, but recalled Estudiantes ' tradition of overcoming opponents considered favorites.
Estudiantes' Verón on Flamengo in the Libertadores: "Yes, the challenge is difficult"
"Obviously, we know the power of our opponent, but we also know that we've been through similar situations against important teams, and that the club, given its history, has risen to the occasion. We've always kept this in mind: yes, the challenge is difficult, but we can excel and represent the club well , regardless of the result. We've experienced this before, and we continue to do so," the director stated.
In the early 1990s, Verón began his career at Estudiantes and played in the 2-0 victory over Flamengo in the 1994 Supercopa Libertadores . In addition to his former club, the former midfielder also shone for major teams such as Boca Juniors, Lazio, Manchester United and Inter Milan . In 2007, he returned to Estudiantes and was a key player in their 2009 Copa Libertadores victory.
Verón retired in 2014, but returned to the field three years later as a player-president . His last official match came in 2017, against Botafogo, also in the Copa Libertadores, during the group stage.
