Corinthians' debt to Flamengo, referring to the payment in installments for the purchase of full-back Matheuzinho at the beginning of this year, could complicatenegotiations between the two clubs for the purchase of goalkeeper Hugo Souza.
Corinthians claims that the deal has already been agreed. As stipulated in the contract, the São Paulo club used the option to purchase 50% of the economic rights of Hugo Souza for 800 thousand euros (approximately R$4.8 million), paid in four installments. The installments are scheduled for January and June 2025 and 2026, respectively.
However, according to information from 'GE', Flamengo has the right to refusethe "guarantor" appointed by Corinthians to ensure the goalkeeper's payment. This guarantor would be a company or person who would act as guarantor of the agreement.
When purchasing Matheuzinho, Corinthians used the contract with Brax, the company responsible for selling advertising signs, as a guarantee. Even so, the club delayed the payment, which generated dissatisfaction at Flamengo, which now does not want to negotiate Hugo Souza without solid guarantees that the agreed amount will be paid. Flamengo's preference would be for payment to be made in cashto avoid any risk of default.
To pay off part of the price for buying Matheuzinho, Corinthians had to take out a loan of R$4 million from the businessman Igor Carvalho Zveibrucker. He also granted another R$5 million to the club to help sign midfielder Rodrigo Garro.
Delay in paying one of the installments for the purchase of Matheuzinho may result in an increase in the final value of the contract, initially closed shortly more than R$21 million.
In the case of Hugo Souza, if Flamengo does not accept the financial guarantees proposed by Corinthians for payment in installments, the São Paulo club would be obliged to pay the amount of 800 thousand euros in cash in January. If he fails to meet the deadline, Hugo Souza would return to Flamengo.
Corinthians simply states that "the contract will be fulfilled", trusting that it is legally supported to follow the established business model . The club does not consider the possibility of the negotiation failing and believes it will be able to pay for the player in installments, without restrictions on the indicated guarantor.
Disagreement over guarantees and payment methods could end up taking the case to court. However, both clubs are seeking a peaceful solution to the impasse. When Hugo Souza's loan ends, the goalkeeper should receive a salary increase, gloves, and sign a contract with Corinthians for five seasons.
