The negotiations between Flamengo and Zenit took a few more steps this Monday (24). The Russian team received the proposals made by Wendel and Claudinho, but has already rejected one of them. While both players are eager to represent Mengão, their club appears to be willing to give up just one of them.

The journalist Venê Casagrande reported on Monday night (24) that Wendel would be much closer to playing for Flamengo than Claudinho. The striker was the first interest of the club from Rio de Janeiro, but the negotiations do not seem so promising. Zenit rejected Fla's proposal to buy him for 15 million euros and made a new offer, but for almost twice the amount: 25 million euros (approximately 131 million reais at the current price).

Although with an unwanted response, the representatives of the Most Dear are still willing to fight for the attacker. And in the meantime, they have already made a proposal of 13 million euros for Wendel. Even if the proposal is lower, hopes for the future signing of the star are higher. That's because, according to Casagrande, Zenit would not be willing to get rid of the midfielder.

With a great squad, Flamengo is still looking to reinforce it, especially coach Jorge Sampaoli, who asked for both players since the beginning of the transfer window. This one is now about to close, which forces Fla to run a little more with the negotiations.

If the signings do not take place by the weekend, the players will be left out of the Libertadores, because the registration deadline for athletes from teams still 'surviving' in the knockout stage is at the end of this week. For the Copa do Brasil, the deadline is August 8, after the end of the transfer window.

Estudiantes is already in Rio de Janeiro for the first leg of the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals against Flamengo , scheduled for Thursday (18), at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), at Maracanã. The Argentine team trained at Fluminense's facilities , preparing for the decisive duel.

Coach Eduardo Domínguez tested a more conservative formation, including an extra defensive midfielder in midfield, as a strategy to contain Flamengo's attacks. According to Radio Província 1270 in La Plata, the change could result in only one striker on the field , demonstrating a more solid defensive posture.

LINEUP AND POSSIBLE CHANGES

Estudiantes ' likely lineup for the clash includes: Muslera; Gómez, Nuñez, Rodríguez, Arzamendia; Ascacibar, Piovi, Amondarain, Medina, Tiago Palacios; Carrillo.

It's not yet clear whether Piovi will play as an extra midfielder or be replaced by Castro . Amondarain, despite being an attacking midfielder, could drop back and act as a third midfielder, depending on Domínguez's strategy in recent training sessions.

FLAMENGO WILL HAVE A CHALLENGE

With the prospect of a more closed Argentine team, Flamengo, under the command of Filipe Luís, will have to work hard to break down Estudiantes' defense and seek a positive result in the first leg of the Libertadores quarterfinals.

JORGINHO IS A MISSING PARTY IN THE TEAM

MIDFIELD OPTIONS

Without Jorginho, coach Filipe Luís is evaluating the best alternatives for the position. De La Cruz and Saúl are the main candidates to form a partnership with Saúl in midfield . The coach will lead the final training session before the match on Wednesday (17) to determine his replacement.

Another confirmed absence is left-back Alex Sandro, who is nursing a calf injury and will be unfit to play. Ayrton Lucas and Matías Viña are competing for the starting spot on the left wing.
