FROM BARBER TO FLAMENGO STAR! CHECK OUT THE INCREDIBLE STORY OF EVERTTON ARAÚJO

To enter the spotlight last Sunday (16), Evertton Araújo had to be strong not to give up after being released from two big clubs and also to resist the difficulties of lack of money. Or dodge them, for example by working as a barber. His life story, still at 21 years old, is very powerful.  The history of the steering wheel began in the Santa Cruz neighborhood. Just not the famous one in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro. Let's say the "poor cousin" in the interior, in the city of Volta Redonda. Youngest son of Seu Paulo and Dona Danielle, the boy from a humble family grew up like most young people who share the same reality: with the ball as his main toy.

He started playing at the age of 4 in the neighborhood blocks and at 6, when he was old enough, he was enrolled by his parents in a group at Roberto Dinamite's school, which was also in the neighborhood. And Evertton was a center forward at that time. Now the perfect movement of Sunday's header has been explained. It's like riding a bike, you don't forget. Speaking of bicycles, the vehicle played an important role in the beginning of his career. He was in the under-13s when he tried out for Volta Redonda, the city's team, and passed. His parents often didn't have the financial means to pay for bus tickets and, when they couldn't borrow one, the boy would cycle for about 25 minutes to go to training. He certainly arrived with heavy legs.

Furthermore, the reality at the club wasn't as plentiful as it was at the big teams. If, on the one hand, he had a good field structure and dressing room, on the other hand, he needed to pay for his own equipment, such as boots and shin guards. But his parents did everything they could to support this dream. Evertton's mother has already stopped making meals to have food for him and his older sister, Evillyn. A dream that twice seemed palpable. When he was in the under-15s, and had already switched from being a center forward to becoming a midfielder, a Cruzeiro scout took him to Belo Horizonte. But after almost a year at Toca da Raposa, he ended up being released. Disappointment smiled at him and then deluded him again. Upon returning to Rio de Janeiro, he managed to try out at Botafogo and stayed in the under-17s. But not for long: almost a year later, he was sent away again.

He returned to Volta Redonda, but discouragement struck. And during this vain period of adolescence, wanting to have money to help around the house and also be able to buy clothes and sneakers, he considered a plan B for his life: he took a barber course and started cutting hair, even though he didn't have a barber shop to work in. The services were provided at home or in the Voltaço CT itself. He charged R$10 to R$15 per cut. But a ray of hope didn't let him abandon football for good. In the under-17 team of Volta Redonda he changed position again, becoming second midfielder, and moving up to the under-20 team as first man in midfield. It was this function that drove away his previous nightmares and allowed him to dream again. In 2022, Evertton stood out for Voltaço in the Copinha and caught the attention of Flamengo.

Rubro-Negro offered him a loan contract of just four months, but it was enough to show his business card . After good performances, he became a starter in the under-20s and had 30% of his economic rights purchased for R$300,000. Last year, Flamengo was Brazilian champion in the category and in December exercised the option to purchase a further 40% of the player for R$800,000, renewing the contract until the end of 2026. The other 30% belongs to the player and his staff .

The first women's volleyball competition is Mengão's! This Friday (27), Flamengo won the National Cup of Pro-Vôlei Clubs. Against the current Superliga champion, Bernardinho's team played 3 sets to 0 at Minas, with scores of 25-15, 25-18 and 25-17. The duel took place at Ginásio Wilson Mânica, in Ijuí, Rio Grande do Sul.

The tournament featured three clubs and serves as preparation for the 2024/25 Superliga. On Wednesday (25), Flamengo beat Maringá. On Thursday (26), Minas also beat the team from Paraná. Therefore, this Friday (27th) the big decision took place, which had a packed gym.

Victory to respect

Despite being a competition to open the season, Flamengo's victory gives a boost to the season. After all, Minas is the team to beat in Brazilian women's volleyball. Thus, in the last five Superligas, the Belo Horizonte team won four titles and one runner-up. In the squad, there are athletes who have played for the Brazilian team, such as Thaísa, Olympic champion and bronze medalist in this year's edition, in Paris.

Superliga

The dates of the Women's Super League have not yet been announced. However, there is an expectation that the competition will start in October. In total, 12 teams will play the tournament, in a round-robin system, with the eight best qualifying for the quarter-finals.

In the last edition, after all, Flamengo was eliminated by Praia Clube in the semi-final . Therefore, the goal for 2024/25 is to reach the decision and repeat the title won in 2000/01, when Rubro-Negro beat Vasco, in a historic decision at the Ginásio do Maracanãzinho.

FIFA will announce the venues for the 2025 Super Club World Cup this Saturday (28). The announcement will be made during the Global Citizen Festival. The event will be held in Central Park, New York. FIFA did not detail how many cities and stadiums will host the 2025 edition. This will be the first time that the tournament will feature 32 teams.

The Super World Cup will be held between June 15 and July 13, 2025 The competition already has 30 qualified teams, with three Brazilians among them: Palmeiras, Flamengo and Fluminense. Brazil may have one more representative. This is because Atlético-MG and Botafogo are fighting for the last South American place in the competition — the Libertadores title gives them the place. Peñarol [if they win the Libertadores] and Olímpia [if River wins the Libertadores] are the other teams in the running.

What will the Super Mundial be like?

< The competition organized by FIFA will be played for the first time with 32 teams next year. The United States will host the first edition of the tournament in this format. The 32 teams will be divided into eight groups with four teams each, with them facing each other in a single round. The top two in each group will advance to the round of 16. The knockout stage will be played in a single game.

The places are divided into: 12 for Europe, six for South America, four for Asia, Africa and North, Central America and the Caribbean, one for Oceania and one for the host country.

In addition to the remaining MLS spot, which has not yet defined its representative, the other available entry belongs to South America. It is destined for the champion of the edition of 2024 of the Libertadores. If River Plate wins the title, it will be transferred to the Conmebol ranking in FIFA and would already have an owner: Olímpia-PAR.

Flamengo is focused on the decision against Peñarol, in the Libertadores. However, Mais Querido's next opponent in the Brasileirão, Athletico-PR fired its coach Martín Varini. In total, the coach played 19 games in charge of the team from Paraná, who came to the decision to dismiss him due to negative results in the competition.

Like Mais Querido, Athletico-PR remains alive in the Copa Sudamericana, but has stumbled in the Brasileirão. Thus, this may have been the last straw for Martín Varini's dismissal, as the team had gone seven games without a win.

NEW COACH AGAINST FLAMENGO

O Athletico -PR faces Racing this Thursday (26) in the Sulamericana, the same day as Mais Querido in the Libertadores. In this way, the Paraná team rushed to sign a new coach to be on the edge of the field for the match.

In this way, Athletico-PR will have a new coach for the match against Flamengo. The team's new commander is Lucho Gonzalez, a former player at the club.

WHAT ABOUT FLAMENGO?

Flamengo remains focused on the Libertadores and travels to Uruguay this Tuesday (24 ). The Mais Querido squad completes preparation for the match against Peñarol this Wednesday (25). The clash will be Thursday (26), at 7pm, in Montevideo.
