Flamengo suffered its second consecutive defeat in the Brazilian Championship since Tite's arrival as coach. On Wednesday night, facing Santos at the Mané Garrincha Stadium, in Brasília, Rubro-Negro ended up defeated 2-1.
Just as happened in the match against Grêmio the previous week, Flamengo opened the scoring, but ended up suffering a comeback. This time, the situation worsened when midfielder Gerson was sent off in the 41st minute of the first half.
Defender Fabrício Bruno expressed his frustration in an interview with Premiere channel after the final whistle, noting: "When we had an equal number of players, we already had difficulties. After the expulsion it is clear that it is difficult. We have to lower the line because it is a team that is in a difficult situation but knows how to propose the game, knows how to play. Then, with one less, there's no way I can play," lamented defender Fabrício Bruno in an interview with Premiere after the final whistle.
However, Fabrício Bruno went further and criticized to the performance of referee Rafael Rodrigo Klein, stating: "The refereeing is terrible, terrible. There are things that I'm tired of complaining about. Jean Lucas stamps on my foot, the sock is torn and he's going to give the card and it doesn't work. . One of Flamengo's main players in 2024, Gerson has been fundamental under Tite's command. This year, Gerson leads the list of Serie A athletes with the most minutes on the field since returning from surgery at the beginning of the season.
In March 2024, Gerson underwent kidney surgery due to hydronephrosis, a problem kidney that kept him away from Flamengo for around a month and a half. Since his return, the athlete has participated in all 37 Flamengo matches, in addition to two more for the Brazilian National Team.
