This Wednesday (31), Flamengo returns to play on the field of Estádio Estadual Jornalista Edgar Proença, or, as it is popularly known, at Mangueiorão in Belém do Pará. The match valid for the fifth round of the Campeonato Carioca will be against Sampaio Corrêa, at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), marking the first time in 11 years that the red-black team plays at the venue.
In total, Mengão has already played 39 matches at the mangueirão. There are 22 wins, nine draws and eight defeats. The last time Fla stepped into the Pará stadium was on April 3, 2013, when they defeated local club Remo, 1-0, in the first game of the Copa do Brasil title campaign. The winning goal on that occasion was from striker Rafinha, revealed by Flamengo and who today, at 30 years old, plays in Bolivian football.
Flamengo's last defeat in Belém was in the 1995 Brazilian Championship to another local team, Paysandu, 2-0, in the Brazilian Championship. On the field, Rubro-Negro had the duo Romário and Edmundo. In this century, there were six games in the capital of Pará, with four wins (three against Remo and one against Paysandu) and two draws with Papão.
It's worth remembering that, last year, Mangueirão hosted Brazil's debut in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Led by Fernando Diniz, the team won 5-1. Neymar (3 ), Raphinha and Rodrygo scored the team's goals.
FLAMENGO IN THE SEASON SO FAR

Bolivia's all-time leading scorer and national idol, Marcelo Moreno, formerly of Flamengo, revealed he is considering coming out of retirement . The striker explained that Bolivia's qualification for the playoffs has rekindled his desire to wear the country's jersey once again.
Despite surpassing 100 caps for the national team, Marcelo Moreno has never played in a World Cup. Bolivia only participated in the tournament in 1930, 1950, and 1994 —when the center forward hadn't even begun his professional career in 2006.

With the team finishing sixth in the qualifiers, the striker had already expressed a desire to return if a World Cup berth became a reality. Now, he's considering the possibility of representing the country in the playoffs.
"I'm enjoying it to the fullest, I can't believe it. I needed to retire, I needed a break from my career . Today, with this happiness that the boys on the national team are giving us, it motivates us to do so many things... We'll see what happens next," he said in an interview with GE.
Marcelo Moreno officially retired in 2023, playing for Independiente del Valle (EQU). The following year, he played a farewell match for Cruzeiro, the club where he became an idol: " God willing and allowing, so be it . I feel good about returning. We'll see what happens. I'm making the most of it, and we'll analyze it carefully. That's the best answer I can give right now," the striker added.
Trained in the youth ranks of Oriente Petrolero (BOL) and Vitória, Marcelo Moreno built an international career, playing for Cruzeiro, Shakhtar Donetsk, Werder Bremen, Wigan, Grêmio, Flamengo , Changchun Yatai, Wuhan Zall, Shijiazhuang Ever Bright, Cerro Porteño and Independiente del Valle.
Marcelo Moreno arrived at Flamengo in 2013, a year when the club was in a period of cost-cutting under Eduardo Bandeira de Mello. Signed on loan from Grêmio, he played just 20 games, scoring four goals and assisting one . In 2014, he returned to Cruzeiro, before beginning his career in Chinese football.
Uruguay's national team schedules games in Asia for the next FIFA Date, which makes it difficult for the midfielder and full-back to arrive for the Mengão games.
