Flamengo continues to look for reinforcements to strengthen its squad for the 2024 season, and a name that resurfaces on the radar is Gonzalo Montiel. The Argentine right-back, currently 27 years old, is linked to Sevilla, but is on loan at Nottingham Forest, where his use has been limited under the command of coach Nuno Espirito Santo.

From the beginning of the year, Montiel played just a few minutes on the field for the English club, accumulating just three minutes in the last six games. His last full performance came on February 2 against Bristol City. The situation of scarce use arouses the interest of Flamengo, who have already considered his signing previously.

In 2022, Flamengo tried to negotiate a loan with an option to purchase Montiel. However, on that occasion, Sevilla were reluctant to release the player. Recently, the possibility of bringing the full-back to Brazil gained strength again, especially after his outstanding performance in the 2022 World Cup, where Montiel was decisive in converting the penalty that guaranteed the world title for Argentina.

Flamengo's football department, when asked about interest in the player, maintains a cautious stance. According to reports by journalist Venê Casagrande, the club does not deny past negotiations or current interest, but chooses not to detail ongoing discussions. “We can't talk about it, but we confirm that there was interest in the past”, mentioned a source within the club.

For the right-back position, Flamengo already has Uruguayan Guillermo Varela and Wesley, revealed by the club's youth teams. Montiel's arrival would add not only depth, but also international experience to the Red and Black defensive sector.
