Nego do Borel was sentenced by the courts to pay almost R$150,000 after being hired for a 15th birthday party at the Copacabana Palace, in Rio de Janeiro, and not showing up. The event took place in 2023, according to information released by Folha de São Paulo.
The court ruled that Borel must face a fine of R$30,000 for breach of contract, in addition to having to reimburse the contracting family in more than R$ $86 thousand. He must also pay an additional R$10,000 to each of the three plaintiffs in the case.
Last year, the musician had already lost in this action. To meet his requirements at the time, which included the assembly of a stage, lighting, sound and dressing rooms stocked with food and drinks, the contracting family provided all the details as requested. However, the singer did not show up.
The contractor, mother of the birthday girl, was informed during the early hours of the party that the singer would not be able to attend the event, as he was not in the city of the event. At the time, the singer explained that there had been an alleged failure by the logistics company in charge of his air transport to Rio de Janeiro.
"I was hired to do a show in São Paulo at 10pm and another in Rio de Janeiro at 1am. There would be time to leave the show, catch the jet and arrive in Copacabana, but the jet didn't arrive. I was waiting, people from Rio calling me, the girl's mother desperate, worried, upset, rightly so. In the middle of all this, there's a company that organizes the party and hired me. I couldn't get in touch with the girl's family, but I really wanted to apologize," he told Globo's now-defunct Se Joga program.
"I understand that you are upset. I don't know if she will watch [the program] or if the message will reach her, but I wanted to take the opportunity to apologize. I didn't have the opportunity to have direct contact with the girl and the mother. There was contact between my office and the company that hired me. We always wanted to help, but we didn't have direct contact with the family", he concluded.
