At the end of July, Pedro was attacked by physical trainer Pablo Fernández, who was later fired from Flamengo's coaching staff. The case had repercussions in the football world, in addition to having consequences within the club. About what happened, Zico comments that he has never seen anything like it during his entire career.
“These are things that happen in football. Lose, win, problem, discussion, fight, that always happens. In a place that has 60 people working, not everyone agrees, so this can happen. I think the important thing is knowing how to solve the problem, having the authority to see who is responsible. Getting there and everyone being responsible for what happened. Of course, a fact like what happened, I have almost 60 years of football, I had never seen it, but it happened, so it has to be resolved”, he pointed out.
The star continues to reinforce that discussions are normal in football, pointing out that the legendary team of 81 also had its fights. However, Zico points out that discussions were left for the locker rooms, and on the field the team needed to preserve the union.
“That 1981 team had people who didn't talk to each other, but when we got onto the field we had to fight. with the adversary, not between us. Each one lives in a different way, each one has a thought, you are not obliged to hug your partner every day. The important thing is that when it comes to training everyone is together, paddling for your shirt, defending your shirt, and when it comes to the game the scolding is with your opponent”, he explained.
The eternal number 10 ends by remembering that, regardless of any personal friction, the players must fulfill their duties.
“When you live in a group, collectively, there can always be a problem, the important thing is that on the field each one fulfills his/her role that's written in the contract and period,” he said.
Zico will be cheering for Mais Querido next Thursday (10th), when Flamengo and Olimpia (PAR) face each other in the second leg of the round of 16 Libertadores final. The duel takes place at 9 pm (Brasília time), at the Defensores del Chaco Stadium, in Paraguay.
