Considered favorite in Group E of the Libertadores, Flamengo debuted with a 1-1 draw with Millonarios at an altitude of 2,640 meters from Bogotá. A result that was celebrated by the Colombian press. The capital's newspapers highlighted the point won against Rubro-Negro at El Campín. See below some repercussions in the country:

The newspaper ADN featured on its cover a photo of Daniel Ruiz, scorer of the Colombian goal, and in the highlight of the game it headlined: "With 10, Millos achieved a valuable draw in the World Cup" , making reference to the fact that he played much of the second half with one less after Vásquez's expulsion.

The daily El Espectador reported: "Millonarios is a draw to dream of a good Copa Libertadores". The newspaper highlights that the Colombian team "showed character and football against Flamengo, one of the favorites for the title of the continental tournament". Flamengo's coach, in a press conference, highlighted the importance of adding points away from home and recognized the quality of the opponent .

FLAMENGO MISTAKES AT THE BEGINNING OF THE COMPETITION

The clash between Flamengo and Millonarios did not disappoint in terms of emotion. Flamengo, known for its offensive ability, opened the scoring with a goal from Gabigol in the 32nd minute of the first half . However, Millonarios did not give up and, even with one player less, managed to equalize with a goal from Daniel Ruiz in the 19th minute of the final stage. This result leaves Libertadores Group E wide open and promises a fierce dispute for leadership.

After the final whistle, players from both teams demonstrated mutual respect and recognized the difficulty of playing in Bogotá, especially due to the altitude . Gabigol, speaking after the game, praised Millonarios' attitude and stated that the altitude made a difference in the teams' performance.

Speculated as a possible reinforcement of Flamengo to fill the gap left by Pedro, striker Anthony Martial is free on the market, but has not played since December 9, 2023. On that occasion, Manchester United, his former club, entered the field to face Bournemouth and lost 3-0 in the Premier League. Martial was a starter and played for 56 minutes.

At the beginning of the year, the French striker suffered a groin injury that required surgery. Therefore, he was away for around 42 days, only returning in March. Even though there were three months left on his contract, Manchester United chose to let go of the player. Since then, Martial has been evaluating his next club and Flamengo is paying attention to his movements.

Just like Flamengo, Anthony Martial suffered from injuries in 2023/24. The star had several physical problems that kept him away from the field for a total of 60 days. Due to muscle pain, the player was not available for United in 12 matches last season.

Status of the deal between Flamengo and Anthony Martial

If the If Flamengo is really interested in the Frenchman, they will have to race against time and agree on the signing by Monday (9). Registration for free players is closing. According to Italian journalist Luca Bendoni, who works at the Gianluca Dimarzio portal, the deal could come to fruition soon.

Offered to Flamengo by his staff, Martial also had a drop in his personal numbers. In the 2022/23 season, the player scored six goals and provided two assists in the Premier League. In 2023/24, it was just one goal and no pass that resulted in the ball in the opponents' net.

In the confrontation between Palmeiras and Flamengo, the São Paulo team demonstrated superiority in the first 15 minutes of the game. During this period, Palmeiras recorded 57% possession of the ball and made eight shots, while Flamengo failed to create any offensive opportunities.

FLAMENGO HAS SCREAMING MOMENTS OF MISTAKES

O Flamengo, in response, tried to balance the match by increasing its ball possession. However, the Rio team often resorted to long throws that did not result in productive plays, returning possession to the opponent.

Coach Tite made tactical adjustments, changing the positions of Luiz Araújo and Gerson, in addition to constantly guiding Arrascaeta, but these changes did not have the desired effect. In the 37th minute of the game, Flamengo finally managed its first shot, a modest shot from Allan, who acted as a midfielder with more offensive freedom.
