Long-time teammates Everton Ribeiro and Filipe Luís will meet again this Saturday (10), but now on opposite sides. In the eighth round of the Brazilian Championship , the midfielder will defend Bahia against Flamengo, a team that is now led by his former teammate.
“It’s going to be different, right? He’s a dear friend who went from football to off the pitch ,” said Everton, in an interview with the ge portal, when commenting on the reunion with the former full-back, now the red-black coach.
I'll send him a message before the game, tell him to be more free..."
Bahia's number 10 did not hide his admiration for the Mengão coach, but, jokingly, Everton revealed that he should send a message to Filipe before the ball rolls:
“I’m rooting for him, I’m rooting for his family and on the field. I’m going to send him a message before the game, tell him to give me more freedom, right? Not to mark me so much . It’s going to be a good game, two great teams , two great coaches, and I hope we can play a great game and come out of there as winners,” said the former Flamengo captain.
The reunion, however, takes place amidst a major challenge. Bahia has not beaten Flamengo since 2019 and has accumulated 11 consecutive defeats in the match. Even so, Everton is relying on the recent triumph over Palmeiras away from home to believe that the drought will be broken:
"We know it's very difficult to play there. Flamengo has a very strong squad and structure. But we managed to break the taboo against Palmeiras, and now we're on the rise . We're going to give it our all," concluded Everton Ribeiro.
Flamengo and Bahia face each other this Saturday (10), at 9 pm (Brasília time), at Maracanã, with broadcasts by Premiere and SporTV . Both teams are coming off setbacks in the Libertadores and are looking for a comeback in the Brasileirão . Mengão needs a win to regain the lead. Third place with 14 points, Mais Querido is two points behind leader Palmeiras, who has 16.

Flamengo confirmed this Monday (18) a new sponsorship agreement with Betano, a company in the sports betting sector. The announcement was made on the club's official social networks , a few days after the break with PixBet, a former partner.
The partnership includes men's and women's soccer, Olympic sports, and Flamengo's own communications platform, Flamengo TV . Although the contract length and value have not been disclosed, the club has received offers worth over R$200 million annually , solidifying the Mais Querido as the highest-paid team in terms of master sponsorship in Brazil.
The relationship with PixBet ended after the company experienced financial difficulties and failed to fulfill its contractual commitments. The bookmaker, which had signed an agreement in 2024 with the possibility of automatic renewal for another two years, chose not to activate the clause due to cash flow problems.
If the renewal had been exercised, Mengão would have received around R$250 million additionally , in addition to a R$50 million bonus related to the partnership with FlaBet, the club's official betting house, which will also cease its operations with the departure of PixBet.
With the arrival of Betano, Flamengo reaffirms its strength in the sponsorship market and expands its international reach , as the company also sponsors major clubs in Europe and Latin America. The agreement places Flamengo in the absolute lead among Brazilian clubs in terms of amounts received per master sponsor.
