Currently playing in Mexican football , defender Samir, who came through the ranks of Flamengo, fondly recalled his time with the club and highlighted the importance of the Red-Blacks in his career . In an interview with ge, the defender spoke about winning the 2013 Copa do Brasil, when, at age 18, he started in the final against Athletico-PR.

"That was a turning point for me. If I've gotten this far, that final helped me a lot . Flamengo , without a doubt, truly opened the doors of the world to Samir. I'm very grateful to the club and to all the places I've been," said the defender.
With Chicão injured in the first leg of the final, Samir earned a spot in the team and played the full 90 minutes of the decisive match , which was won 2-0, with goals from Elias and Hernane Brocador, at the Maracanã. At the time, the defender even earned the nickname "Samito" from the fans.
The following year, Samir participated in Flamengo's Libertadores campaign, which ended frustratingly with elimination in the group stage after a loss to León of Mexico at the Maracanã: " Even though it didn't end the way we wanted , that Libertadores was also special for me. I had some good times with Flamengo," he recalled.
Samir left Flamengo in 2016 for Udinese in Italy. He also played for Hellas Verona, Watford, Tigres, and currently plays for Mazatlán , also in Mexico. In 2019, he was called up by Tite to the Brazilian national team.
On loan until the end of the year, the defender will be out of contract in December and admits he's considering returning to Brazil—a decision that also involves family issues. At the beginning of the season, Vasco da Gama attempted to negotiate with the player , but backed out after being alarmed by his salary.
“Coming back has always been on my radar, but more on my wife’s than mine. Being away from home is difficult . Going back to family and friends is something that weighs heavily,” said the defender. Samir will have another opportunity to watch Flamengo this Sunday (27), when the Mais Querido faces Atlético-MG at 8:30 pm (Brasília) at Maracanã.
