During an appearance on the Seleção SporTV program, Fluminense midfielder Felipe Melo commented on Saúl Ñíguez's arrival at Flamengo . The experienced player praised the signing, but made an important caveat: fans need to understand that the Spaniard, although renowned, is no longer at the technical and physical peak he displayed a few years ago in European football.

With no space at Atlético de Madrid, Saúl chose to end his long stint at the Colchonero club — marked by titles and prominence under Diego Simeone — and start a new chapter in his career in Brazil . The 29-year-old midfielder signed with Flamengo until December 2028 and was officially announced this Wednesday (23).
Despite having a market in Europe, Saúl chose to wear the Red-Black Mantle and work again with Filipe Luís, with whom he played in Spanish football. Felipe Melo recognizes the talent and international experience of the new signing , who has also played for clubs like Chelsea. However, he emphasizes that adapting to Brazilian football will take time.
"I don't know how he is now, I can't say. The Atlético player was a great player, he played for Chelsea... he has a lot of experience. But the fans have to understand: calm down. He's a very good player and can stand out , but there's a process involved . He's not the player he was 10 years ago."
Felipe Melo also commented on Saúl's lackluster performance at Sevilla, where he was recently on loan. According to the midfielder, the Spanish team's reactive style of play didn't benefit the midfielder, who could perform better against Flamengo , which plays more possession-based.
"At Sevilla, he had a poor season. The team played with little possession, and a draw was often considered a victory . Now he's going to a team that's a leader, one that will give him what he loves: the ball at his feet. I think he'll run a lot less without the ball than he did at Sevilla."

Flamengo has formalized a proposal for goalkeeper Gabriel Brazão , Santos' standout player in 2025. According to information from UOL, Rubro-Negro offered seven million euros (around R$45 million) for 60% of the player's economic rights.
Despite the high price, Santos rejected the offer. The São Paulo club believes Brazão should only leave if a minimum offer of €15 million (approximately R$94 million) is met, a sum considered fair by the board to open negotiations.
