Boca Juniors beat Palmeiras on Thursday night (05) at Allianz Parque in the semi-final of the Copa Libertadores da América. The match thus decided who will play in the final: Boca Juniors X Fluminense. It is the first time in four years that Verdão and Flamengo have not competed for the championship cup.

The Libertadores 2023 final is full of news. It is the first time in Fluminense's history that the team has qualified to play in the final of a continental championship. Furthermore, in the match at the Maracanã Stadium, neither of the two greats of Brazilian football will be present, which hasn't happened since 2019.

When Flamengo won their second Libertadores four years ago, against River Plate (ARG), a time of glory began for the Brazilians, who completely dominated the championship final for three years. In 2020 and 2021, Palmeiras became champion. The games were against Santos and Mais Querido, respectively. Last year (2022), Flamengo achieved its third championship over Athletico-PR.

In fact, Flamengo had to say goodbye to the Libertadores much earlier than Palmeiras, as they have been out of the competition since the round of 16. The current champion was eliminated by Olimpia (PAR) in a terrible 3-1 in August, under the command of Jorge Sampaoli.

Palmeiras X Boca Juniors was sad for Palmeiras, who had little space on the field for most of the game. Boca opened the scoring in the first half with a goal from Edinson Cavani in the 23rd minute. For the rest of the first half they dominated the field.

An expulsion was what destabilized the Buenos Aires team. In the 21st minute of the second half, Marcos Rojo received a second yellow card and, shortly thereafter, a red card. Seven minutes later Joaquín Piquerez managed to balance the game for Palmeiras, but the net was no longer scored in the match and the teams had to decide the winner of the semi-final on penalties.

Cavani helped Verdão soon losing at the first opportunity, but hope was short-lived. Raphael Veiga and Gustavo Gómez, from Palmeiras, shot at the goal, but were blocked by Boca's goalkeeper, Romero, both times. In the end, the Argentines' victory came without even needing the fifth and final penalty from São Paulo.

Last Tuesday, the candidate for re-election for mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, denied the journalist Ancelmo Gois, from Globo. In a post on Instagram, the mayor informed that the city hall will be responsible for removing the megastructure on the gas meter site, different from what was reported. Furthermore, he guaranteed that Flamengo will have its new stadium, with the best conditions and security.

The news published by Ancelmo informs that Flamengo would have to pay R$100 million to remove a large gas structure present on land acquired by the club, which is owned by CEG and CEG-Rio, which are companies that are part of the gas concessionaire Naturgy.

According to the article, the companies were informed that Flamengo is the responsible for bearing the expenses, as provided for in one of the annexes to the land purchase and transfer contract. The clause, however, does not have a specified limit.

Eduardo Paes guarantees that the removal is the responsibility of Rio's city hall.

Paes stated that the values for the transfer of the structure are different from what was pointed out in the article by Ancelmo Gois. Furthermore, it exempted Flamengo from any responsibility, and that the city hall has been planning to remove it for years.

“They are making me defend @flamengo more than I would like: let it be clear that this is not the The cost of this transfer and when it happens will be the responsibility of the city of Rio, which knows that this structure cannot be in an area that is already receiving so many residential buildings. It's been in our plans for a long time! Flamengo will have its new stadium there in the gasometer with all the quality and safety that the region demands and deserves. Period!”, published the mayor.
