The rivalry between Rio de Janeiro clubs and the cross-continental provocation took over social media this week after Fluminense's elimination to Chelsea in the Club World Cup semifinals. Flamengo, who had beaten the English club in the group stage, took the opportunity to retaliate against an old attack on the club —and even received a response from the Blues themselves .
After the 3-1 victory over Chelsea in the initial phase, Flamengo provoked: “ Where did the Chelsea fans go? ”. The English club’s official account responded this Wednesday (9), shortly after securing a place in the final of the competition: “To New York, for the Club World Cup final.”
The joking atmosphere began even before the tournament, with interactions between Flamengo and English fans. Flamengo's victory increased the level of provocation on social media. However, many Flamengo fans also "apologized" to the Blues after their victories over their favorite rivals, Palmeiras and Fluminense.
The exchange of barbs also involved the Rio rivals. When Fluminense advanced to the World Cup semifinals, the club's official profile posted: "How is the mood in Rio, Flamengo and Botafogo?" With the tricolor's elimination last Tuesday (8), it was the Rubro-Negro's turn to retaliate: they responded by setting the temperature in Laranjeiras , Flu's headquarters.
Among the Brazilian teams that faced Chelsea in this edition of the World Cup, only Flamengo emerged victorious . The team defeated the English side 3-1 in the second round of the group stage, with goals from Bruno Henrique, Danilo, and Wallace Yan—after falling behind.
Palmeiras, meanwhile, fell in the quarterfinals, losing 2-1, while Fluminense lost 2-0 in the semifinals. Despite missing out on the final, Flamengo maintains pride in having been the Blues' only opponent in the tournament. Despite his important role in the squad, Paquetá isn't having a good time at London Stadium. According to the English website Hammers News, the player no longer displays the same enthusiasm as before and is no longer the smiling figure who once commanded attention behind the scenes. He has recently become more isolated, even in relation to his own compatriots .

A fan favorite for Fluminense and currently playing for Wolverhampton Wanderers (ENG), midfielder Jhon Arias is back in the news in Brazil. According to journalist Julio Miguel Neto, Flamengo is already considering making an offer for the Colombian in the 2026 season.
