Flamengo's restructuring continues off the field as well . This Thursday (18), the club announced that Raul Plassmann, former 1981 world champion goalkeeper and historic idol, will be Mengão's newest official ambassador .

In a statement, Rubro-Negro explained that Raul will represent the club at institutional events and will play a fundamental role in strengthening the relationship with the Nação Rubro-Negra , in addition to seeking better care for its idols.
" Raul is a symbol of leadership, technique, and unforgettable achievements . Having him as an ambassador keeps Flamengo 's memory alive and inspires future generations," said club president Luiz Eduardo Baptista, known as Bap.
Raul Plassmann made his mark at Flamengo as part of the legendary Golden Generation, which achieved historic achievements. With the club, the former goalkeeper won the Libertadores and the 1981 Club World Cup, in addition to winning three Brazilian Championships (1980, 1982 and 1983) and four Carioca Championships (1978, 1979 — twice — and 1981).
In his introductory speech, Raul emphasized the excitement of returning to represent the club: " It's a great feeling and a lot of responsibility, just like in 1978, in my debut match for Flamengo in La Coruña . The goal is where everything happens; you cry, laugh, celebrate, and cheer. It's emotion upon emotion. As an ambassador, I see a great similarity: once again I feel emotion and responsibility alongside you, a nation of 45 million fans. Once Flamengo, always Flamengo."
Before the decision against Estudiantes, in Argentina, Flamengo turns its attention to the Brasileirão. On Sunday (18), at 5:30 pm, Filipe Luís' team faces Vasco , at Maracanã, in a game valid for the 24th round. The return of the Libertadores quarterfinals will be played next Thursday (25).

The Nação Rubro-Negra gave another demonstration of its strength on Thursday night (18). In the victory against Estudiantes (ARG) , valid for the quarterfinals of the Libertadores, Maracanã received 71,977 fans , the largest audience in games between clubs since the stadium's reopening in 2013.
On the field, Flamengo won 2-1, with goals from Pedro and Varela, but off the field, the celebration was also historic. The previous record also belonged to the Rubro-Negro, set in the 2023 Recopa Sudamericana final against Independiente del Valle (EQU), when 71,411 fans turned out.
In addition to breaking the stadium's record, the attendance recorded this Thursday also represents the largest in Brazilian football in 2025. The match against Estudiantes will go down in history as the largest crowd at Maracanã in the last 15 years for club matches . The feat is second only to the 72,442 fans who attended the stadium for Flamengo's 2-3 victory over Universidad de Chile in the 2010 Copa Libertadores quarterfinals.
Expectations for a record were already high and increased after an extra two thousand tickets were released hours before the match started. The fans' mobilization was crucial in pushing the team towards victory , which gives them an advantage for the return match, next Thursday (25), in La Plata, Argentina.

Flamengo full-back Matías Viña made a controversial accusation after Flamengo's 2-1 victory over Estudiantes at the Maracanã stadium in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals. According to the Uruguayan, fourth official Jhon Ospina instructed coach Eduardo Domínguez to make a substitution during the match.
