Flamengo is very close to confirming the arrival of two new reinforcements: Jorge Carrascal and Michael Johnston . The Colombian and the Irishman should join the squad in the coming days, increasing to nine the number of foreign players eligible to play in tournaments organized by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), which imposes a limit per game.
According to CBF regulations, teams can field a maximum of nine foreign players per match valid for the Copa do Brasil and the Campeonato Brasileiro. This limit, however, does not apply to tournaments such as the Libertadores, which follow Conmebol rules.
Today, Flamengo has seven foreign athletes in its squad: goalkeeper Rossi (Argentina), defenders Varela and Matías Viña (both from Uruguay), as well as midfielders Erick Pulgar (Chile), De La Cruz and Arrascaeta (both Uruguayan), and striker Gonzalo Plata (Ecuador).
If Carrascal and Johnston are officially announced, the red-black squad will have nine players of other nationalities, reaching the limit allowed for use per match. Carrascal is Colombian and has previously played for River Plate and CSKA Moscow , while Johnston is Irish and plays as a fast forward.
It is important to note that the CBF does not impose a limit on the number of foreigners registered in each club's general roster. The restriction only applies to the number of non-Brazilian players listed per match. In other words, even if Mengão signs other international names, it will be able to use them on a rotating basis, always respecting the quota of nine per game.
At the request of Jorge Sampaoli, former Mengão coach, the Minas Gerais club is monitoring the situation of the midfielder, who has been little admired by the Rio de Janeiro team's fans.

Flamengo is enjoying a great run under Filipe Luís , leading the Brasileirão and reaching the Copa Libertadores semifinals. With a roster packed with options, the competition for playing time is intense , but it also leaves some players in a delicate situation.
One of the most talked-about cases is that of Allan. The midfielder, despite receiving opportunities, failed to perform as expected and became the target of criticism from the fans . Speculation suggests that Jorge Sampaoli, currently at Atlético-MG, would be interested in re-signing the player he requested during his time with the club.
However, a potential transfer would require a significant investment. According to journalist Lucas Tanaka, Flamengo intends to recoup around 80% of the amount invested with the Minas Gerais club, approximately R$35 million.
Another name in the spotlight is Michael , who has lost his place in the squad and has already expressed his desire to leave the club in search of more playing time. The striker is being closely monitored by Corinthians , who see the possibility of strengthening their squad with the red-and-black player. The situation is expected to gain new chapters in the next transfer window.
Flamengo 's next match will be this Thursday (2), at 8:30 pm, at Maracanã, against Cruzeiro. The match, valid for the 26th round of the Brasileirão Betano, is considered decisive as it pits the top two teams in the table against each other.
After a successful spell at Fluminense, the midfielder is going through a period of adaptation in English football and may have an uncertain future, while Mengão watches

After winning the Copa Libertadores with Fluminense, Jhon Arias left Brazilian football after the Club World Cup and joined Wolverhampton Wanderers in England. At his new club, the Colombian has started the last few matches but has yet to establish himself.
So far, he hasn't scored any goals and is struggling to adapt to English football. Even so, Arias remains focused on Europe. The midfielder recently stated that his goal is to perform in English football, but he doesn't rule out a return to Brazil in the future.
According to journalist Fabrício Lopes, Flamengo has already made an initial inquiry into the player. Although negotiations are not underway, Flamengo is seen as one of the few teams in Brazil able to offer salaries close to those earned in Europe.
" Obviously, Arias prioritizes staying in Europe; he just arrived there. He wants to perform for his team. But if that doesn't happen, only Flamengo can offer a salary close to what he earns in Europe," said Fabrício. It's worth remembering that the next transfer window won't open for another three months, so any official moves are unlikely to happen until after that period.
The number 10's future is still up in the air. Arias would prioritize Fluminense if he returns to Brazilian football , but he's not closing the door on Flamengo , which is closely monitoring the situation. The midfielder's performance in the coming months will be crucial in determining the future of his career.
Cruzeiro striker reinforces his identity with Raposa, denies leaving for Galo and reveals a long-held desire to wear the Corinthians shirt in the future

Gabigol hasn't received any official offers from Atlético-MG yet. However, even if he did, the striker wouldn't consider leaving Cruzeiro for a rival in the same city. Since his arrival, the number 9 has developed an affinity with the Raposa , a factor that reinforces his continued presence in Belo Horizonte.
Even with his future uncertain , the striker continues to seek more playing time and a consistent starting role. Among Brazilian clubs, Corinthians is seen by Gabigol as a dream club for the future. However, there are currently no ongoing negotiations between the parties.
Before Atlético-MG's interest was expressed, Corinthians was considered a strong candidate to sign the striker . During Augusto Melo's tenure, the board saw Gabigol as a strategic and high-impact signing, offering a better value than international players like Memphis Depay.
Despite arriving with star status, Gabigol has yet to replicate the prominence he enjoyed at Flamengo at Cruzeiro. He currently has 35 appearances, 12 goals, and four assists for the Minas Gerais team, but Leonardo Jardim doesn't consider him a regular starter.
Gabigol left Flamengo at the end of 2024, after losing his place in the starting lineup. Even so, his history with the Rio de Janeiro club remains marked by decisive goals , especially in the Copa Libertadores victories in 2019 and 2022.
