Flamengo released this Tuesday (01) a official note regarding the change of dates for the second leg of the semifinals of the Cup do Brasil against Corinthians. The CBF changed the day following requests from Mengão and Atlético-MG, who were hampered due to the games being scheduled for the day after the end of the FIFA Date, where both will have players called up.

In the note, Flamengo states that it regrets Vasco and Corinthians' position of using common justice disregarding sporting equality, in addition to remembering that there will be players called up for the FIFA Date from (October 7th to October 15th). The club also cited the General Competition Regulations to state that the black and white duo's requests are unfounded.

The CBF's decision generated outrage by Vasco and Corinthians, who also spoke. In a statement, the São Paulo team stated that they showed concern about the integrity of the Brazilian Championship, as Brasileirão dates also had to be changed to adjust the calendar. The president of Cruzmaltino, Pedrinho, stated that Flamengo and Atlético-MG would be benefiting. The São Januário team went to court to prevent the change.

"The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo (“Flamengo”) comes, faced with the information that Vasco da Gama SAF (“Vasco ”) and Sport Club Corinthians Paulista (“Corinthians”) decided to sue the Superior Court of Sports Justice (“STJD”), against the decision of the Brazilian Football Confederation (“CBF”) to reverse the base date of the second leg matches. semi-final phase of the Copa do Brasil with the matches of the 30th round of the Brazilian Championship, publicly express themselves in the following terms:

1. Initially, it is regrettable that Vasco and Corinthians try to use the Sports Court to distort its function and seek benefits itself, in total disregard for the principle of isonomy and equal sporting conditions which, according to the regulations, should govern competitions;

2. As is widely known, considering the FIFA Date (October 7th to 15th), several players from the semi-finalists will compete in the World Cup Qualifiers and will only return to their clubs between the 16th and 17th of October, on top of the date of the semi-finals. of the Copa do Brasil, so that the inversion of the base date of the Copa do Brasil matches with those of the Brazilian Championship not only favors the balance of competitions but also equality between participants, in addition to guaranteeing a spectacle worthy of the final stretch of a eliminatory competition, which will certainly bring together more audiences, increased box office revenue and greater attractiveness for sponsors and broadcast rights holders.

3. Unfortunately, what is happening is that the aforementioned clubs felt aggrieved for not being able to play a decisive phase of the Copa do Brasil against opponents completely missing their main athletes, due to call-ups that are mandatory for the Clubs to attend. It should be noted that Vasco and Corinthians do not point to a single loss to their teams, but only the fact that their opponents will no longer be harmed by the absences suffered, enhancing the competition itself.

4. With all due respect to Vasco and Corinthians, the requests addressed to the STJD, however, appear to be unfounded in their origin, as they do not withstand a simple consultation of the General Competition Regulations 2024 (art. 5, item I) and the Specific Regulations for the 2024 Copa do Brasil (art. 39, §1º), both published by the CBF and which had the support of the clubs.

5. These two provisions included in the regulations mentioned above leave no doubt that the CBF has the discretion to prepare and change the tables of the competitions it organizes. Furthermore, §1 of article 39 of the Specific Regulations for the 2024 Copa do Brasil is clear in stating that the table may undergo changes as a result of possible modifications promoted by the South American Football Confederation (“CONMEBOL”), as happened.

6. The CBF, in a letter addressed to Flamengo, Atlético Mineiro, Corinthians and Vasco, motivated the inversion of the table due to a change promoted by CONMEBOL in its game calendar (Libertadores and Sul-Americana), which has priority over national competitions.

7. If that wasn't enough, the CBF, in an impartial, isonomic and democratic way, questioned the four clubs that will compete in the semi-final matches of the Copa do Brasil 2024 about the inversion of the table, with Flamengo and Atlético Mineiro signaling positively, Corinthians negatively and Vasco giving a different solution from the one put to vote, which generated the agreement of the majority of those involved (2 against 1).

Thus, in view of the clarifications provided above, Flamengo praises the decision taken by the CBF and reinforces its commitment to ethics , equality and balance of competitions."

Flamengo said goodbye to the Women's Copa do Brasil after losing 1-0 to São Paulo, this Wednesday (17), at Morumbis. The Rio de Janeiro team even tried to react after falling behind on the scoreboard, but was unable to avoid elimination in the single duel of the round of 16. The decisive goal was scored by Duda Serrana, a standout for the São Paulo team.

In the first half, São Paulo dominated possession and adopted a more attacking approach , hindering Flamengo 's play. Flamengo struggled to exchange passes and impose their style. Even so, the visitors had the best chance of the first half: on a quick counterattack in the 30th minute, Duda had a good opportunity but shot wide.

DUDA SERRANA'S GOAL DECIDES

Early in the second half, a poor clearance by the Flamengo defense resulted in the game-clinching goal. The defense poorly cleared the ball, and Duda Serrana fired a precise shot from outside the box, leaving Flamengo's goalkeeper with no chance . From then on, the Rio de Janeiro team pushed forward and sought to press in the final minutes, relying primarily on set pieces and crosses, but failed to create any real chances.

ELIMINATION ENDS PARTICIPATION

With this result, Flamengo ends its Women's Copa do Brasil campaign with one win and one loss. The team received approximately R$90,000 for its participation in the round of 16. After the final whistle, members of the Flamengo coaching staff complained about the refereeing in the center of the field, but the result remained unchanged.

AND THE MALE?

Flamengo could take to the field with a different formation to face Estudiantes this Thursday (18), at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), for the CONMEBOL Libertadores. The duel, decisive for the club's ambitions in the continental competition, will be broadcast live on Disney+.

Flamengo beat Juventude 2-0 last Sunday (14), at Alfredo Jaconi, for the Brazilian Championship, and ended a 28-year winless streak in Caxias do Sul. Arrascaeta opened the scoring and Emerson Royal closed the score, scoring his first goal for the club .

Emerson Royal reveals Filipe Luís's request at Flamengo: "Filipe wants me to be sharp, exploring my physical strength"

After the match, the full-back revealed a conversation with coach Filipe Luís, who advised him on attacking positioning: "I received criticism when I played injured because I couldn't give my best. But I wanted to stay on the field to help Flamengo . Filipe explained to me what he wanted from me: to get to the far post. I even asked my teammates to watch me during that movement," Royal said.

RETURN AS HOLDER

It was the full-back's first game since returning from injury. Royal had sprained his left ankle on August 13 against Internacional in the Copa Libertadores. Since then, he had only played a few minutes in the draw with Grêmio at Maracanã.

According to the player, Filipe Luís asked him to play differently than he was used to in his career: "At Tottenham, I played as a defensive midfielder, on the inside. But Filipe wants me to be sharp, exploiting my physical strength, passing, and crossing. He knows my ability to support, and that can really help the team ."

DISPUTE FOR POSITION

Signed in July for €9 million (approximately R$58 million) from Milan, Emerson Royal is competing for a spot with Varela, who was rested against Juventude due to a groin injury. " Big teams are like that; they always have top-notch players . Varela has a lot of quality, and so do I. The competition is healthy, we work hard, and the choice is Filipe's," said the full-back.

NEXT COMMITMENTS

On Thursday (18), Flamengo faces Estudiantes in the Libertadores (quarter-finals, first leg), at 9:30 pm, at Maracanã . The Most Beloved only returns to the field for the Brasileirão on Sunday (21), against Vasco, also at the sacred temple.
