On Monday afternoon, Flamengo sent a letter to the CBF to register complaints about the performance of referee Wilton Pereira Sampaio during the first game of the Copa do Brasil semifinal against Corinthians, at Maracanã. Despite the 1-0 victory, the club is questioning two moves: a possible penalty involving Héctor Hernández and Gabigol's disallowed goal.
The first move took place just three minutes into the first half, when Héctor Hernández, from Corinthians, touched it with his hand on the ball after a header from Bruno Henrique. Referee Wilton Pereira Sampaio reviewed the move with the help of VAR, but decided not to award the penalty. For arbitration commentator PC Oliveira, from Grupo Globo, the penalty should have been awarded. The CBF, however, did not disclose the VAR analysis of this move.
O Flamengosupported his complaint using two recent examples of penalties scored in similar situations: one in the game between São Paulo and Botafogo for the Libertadores, and another in Grêmio x Atlético-MG for the Brasileirão. The club claims a lack of discretion in decisions when similar moves involve Rubro-Negro.
Disallowed goal by Gabigol
The second move contested by Flamengo was Gabigol's goal, which was disallowed by VAR in the 26th minute of the first half. The striker found the net after Alex Sandro's cross, but the celebration was interrupted by the VAR review, which, after a few minutes, indicated offside. Flamengo claims that there was an error in the operation of the technology and that Gabigol was in a legal position.
CBF has arrived release the video of the VAR analysis of this move. First, it was checked whether Gabigol touched the ball, but there was difficulty in identifying the exact moment of Alex Sandro's touch and the position of Gabigol's shoulder to draw the offside line.
The team led by Sergio Hernández lost to San Pablo Burgos in the first test, but continues preparations to face San Sebastian and compete in the World Cup.

FlaBasquete began a series of friendly matches in Spain to prepare for the Club World Cup. On Wednesday afternoon (10), Rubro-Negro faced San Pablo Burgos, a team from the Spanish elite, and was defeated 106 to 86. The clash marked the squad's first game activity after the full presentation of the athletes, which took place less than a week before.
Despite the negative result, the match served as an important assessment for the Mais Querido coaching staff. The match helped to get the players back into game rhythm, test their physical fitness, and observe the first collective movements at the start of the season.
Flamengo will now continue its preparation schedule on Spanish soil. Next Friday (12), at 3 pm (Brasília time), the team will return to the court to face San Sebastian in another friendly match to prepare for the FIBA Intercontinental Cup. Soon after, the delegation will travel to Singapore, the venue for the world competition.
Throughout the game, FlaBasquete trailed in every quarter. The first quarter was even, ending 26-21 for the Spanish team. The lead slowly grew until halftime, 56-42 . In the third quarter, San Pablo Burgos took off and opened up a 20-point lead (85-65), a lead they maintained until the end, with both teams scoring 21 points in the final quarter.
The starting lineup led by Sergio "Oveja" Hernández featured Alexey Borges, Gui Deodato, Shaq Johnson, Markeith Cummings, and Wesley Castro. Also participating were Dee Bost, Eric Buckner, Jhonatan Luz, Daniel Onwenu, Kayo Gonçalves, Alex Negrete, and Guilherme Hubner. The offensive standout was Kayo Gonçalves, who scored 15 points . Alexey Borges also shone, scoring 14 points.
Flamengo 's Intercontinental Cup debut is scheduled for September 18th at 6am (Brasília time) against NBA G League United. The following day, Flamengo will close out its group stage campaign against the Illawarra Hawks-AUS, also at 6am.
The Gaucho team is fighting to escape the relegation zone, while Mais Querido is looking to extend its lead at the top of the championship after 28 years without winning at the stadium.

Flamengo faces Juventude this Sunday (14), at 4 pm (Brasília time), at Alfredo Jaconi Stadium, for the 23rd round of the Brazilian Championship . The leader of the competition arrives in Caxias do Sul to maintain the top of the table, while the rival from Rio Grande do Sul tries to add points to leave the relegation zone.
Juventude 's idol and technical reference, 44-year-old midfielder Nenê, made a point of highlighting the challenge of facing the "Mais Querido" (Most Beloved ). For him, the match demands maximum attention from the entire Alviverde squad.
" It's one of the toughest games we've had this year. Motivation increases, focus increases. We have to be focused the whole time. This is a game decided by the details. If we slip up against high-quality players, they can decide the outcome at any moment," the athlete stated.
In the first round, the Red-Blacks thrashed their opponents 6-0, their biggest victory in the match . Even so, there's a taboo to be broken: Mengão hasn't won at Alfredo Jaconi Stadium since 1997. For Nenê, overcoming the Rio attack requires a well-executed tactical plan, with low and compact lines.
" Tactically, we need to be perfect. Stay close together, as a block . And when we have the ball, show our personality, press hard, and keep the ball away from our goal to try to score," he added.
Flamengo has 47 points and leads the Brasileirão, three ahead of second-place Cruzeiro. A victory in Caxias do Sul will ensure they maintain their lead in the standings and keep their goal of winning the national title alive.
Bap will present feasibility studies and a new agreement with Rio City Hall regarding the Gasômetro site at a hybrid meeting of the Deliberative Council.

Flamengo's Deliberative Council will hold a hybrid meeting in Gávea next Wednesday (17) to discuss the progress of the project for its own stadium . The meeting, which begins at 6:30 pm, will allow both in-person and virtual participation, and should update council members on the technical studies on the Gasômetro site and the new agreement signed with Rio City Hall.
President Luiz Eduardo Baptista, known as Bap, will present detailed information on the land feasibility study, which is considered essential for determining the project's next steps. Additionally, council members will be able to learn more about the terms of the agreement signed with the City Hall and ask questions directly to the board.
In August, Bap met with Mayor Eduardo Paes to discuss the stadium. At the time, the land tenure agreement for the Gasômetro stadium was signed, ensuring that the Mais Querido club will remain committed to making construction possible . The agreement also extended important deadlines for the project's completion, giving the board more breathing room to make necessary adjustments.
The postponement was confirmed by Bap himself in an interview with the club's official channel. According to him, the requirements contained in the City Hall's public notice made it difficult to accelerate the schedule. Despite the obstacles, the director reinforced that the stadium dream remains firm and financially sustainable for Flamengo.
" There were a series of conditions imposed in the tender for the project to move forward . When evaluating these preconditions, we realized that these steps would not be simple, quick, or easy to fulfill. Therefore, it would not be feasible to open this stadium in 2029," stated the Flamengo president.
