Gabigol's contract with Flamengo is scheduled to end in December 2024. Negotiations to renew the contract began in July this year, but both the club and the player were seeking an agreement on the terms, which, so far, it has not been achieved.

According to information gathered by the Coluna do Fla report, Gabigol would have been placed at the "end of the queue", and Flamengo only intends to resume talks for the renewal of contract at the beginning of 2024.

This was due to the striker's salary request, which involved an increase of just over 50% in relation to his current salaries, and which would not have pleased the club in the first attempts to negotiation. As a result, negotiations were postponed until next year.

Gabigol ended his fifth season at Flamengo with an impressive resume of 11 titles, 151 goals scored in 261 games played. He is currently the seventh highest scorer in the history of the Rio club and one of the greatest idols of all time.

However, in the 2023 season, Gabriel Barbosa has experienced a low period at Flamengo. In 51 games, the striker scored 20 goals and provided four assists. Due to his performances below expectations, the number 10 has faced criticism from the Rio club's fans.

After the 1-0 defeat to Peñarol, in the first game of the Libertadores quarter-finals, coach Tite held a press conference at Maracanã. The team did not perform well and was booed by the fans. Despite the setback, the coach remained confident for the second leg, which will be held in Uruguay.

Regarding the boos coming from the stands, Tite admitted that the fans' dissatisfaction is understandable. "Of course this hurts, especially on the human side. But experience shows that, when you deliver a good production, the fan's reaction is proportional to the love they feel for the club", said the coach, highlighting the emotional bond between the fans and the Most Dear.

FLAMENGO HAS NOT WIN AWAY SINCE 2022

The coach was also asked about the difficulty of Mengão in achieving victories away from home in the Libertadores, since 2022. The last victory away from home came on August 31, 2022, against Vélez Sarsfield, with an impressive 4-0. "We have a great opportunity to break this sequence This is part of the history of football, and I believe we are fully capable of getting there and changing this scenario", replied Tite, showing optimism.

EFFECTIVENESS IS THE FOCUS IN THE RETURN GAME

Tite guaranteed that the team will be more effective in Uruguay, promising a better performance. "Within two or three minutes, we score the goal, and from that point on, we work on the result. In some moments we were hasty, and the opposing goalkeeper also had merit. But I'm confident that we will create half of the opportunities and convert them into goals there. You can charge me later", said the coach, projecting a positive scenario for the second leg.

Argentine goalkeeper Agustín Rossi, who has been at Flamengo for over a year, has not yet fully adapted to the reactions of the fans during the games at Maracanã. After the 1-0 defeat to Peñarol, this Thursday (19), in the quarter-finals of the Libertadores, more than 60 thousand red and black booed the team, an attitude that displeased the player.

Rossi expressed his dissatisfaction with the booing that started in the first half. "The fans always want victory, that's normal. We also always look for a positive result. But I think these boos so early are unnecessary, just like what happened with Lorran during the Copa América. We still believe in the dispute. It was just a goal", commented the goalkeeper, showing confidence in the return game.

ERICK PULGAR BECOMES THE TARGET OF THE FANS

The boos at Maracanã they started in the 12th minute of the first half, after an error by Erick Pulgar when the ball was thrown, which resulted in Peñarol's goal. Since then, the Chilean has become the target of fans' dissatisfaction, who criticized him with every touch of the ball. In the second half, when he was substituted, Pulgar continued to be booed by the red and black team, reinforcing the tense atmosphere in the stadium. b>

In addition to the players, coach Tite was also the target of protests from the fans. Offenses were heard from the stands, which affected the coach, who admitted he was shaken by the insults. GABIGOL: FLAMENGO STAR OCCUPIES LEADING POSITION IN THE BRASILEIRÃO... BUT THE REASON IS NOT GOOD

The number 10 faces challenges in offensive efficiency: Brazilian Championship reveals surprising numbers

Experiencing a bad season, Flamengo's player Gabigol occupies the prominent position in the Brazilian Championship for a reason that certainly does not fill him with pride: he is the athlete with the worst offensive efficiency. This statistic is measured by Expected Goals-Goals (xG), an indicator that highlights the discrepancy between the number of goals actually scored and those expected to be scored.

In this scenario, according to DATA FUT Gabigol leads the negative rankings, with a notable difference of -4.4 between his actual and expected goals. But the Flamengo striker is not alone on this list that no one wants to be on. He is followed by Thaciano, from Bahia, who has an xG of -3.3, Lelê, from Fluminense, with -3.2, Alex Teixeira, from Vasco, with -2.9, and Guilherme, from Fortaleza, with -2.6.

When evaluating Gabigol's current season, we found a player who, despite low offensive efficiency, has remained active on the field. He accumulated a total of 50 appearances, scoring 20 goals and contributing 4 assists. These numbers can serve as a mitigating factor in his situation, demonstrating his continued participation in producing goals for his team.

However, it is important to highlight that offensive efficiency is a critical factor in modern football, as it represents the a player's ability to translate his opportunities into goals. The negative difference of -4.4 in Gabigol's xG raises questions about his performance and finishing effectiveness, essential aspects for a striker of his stature and responsibility.

In a highly competitive sport like football, xG numbers cannot be ignored as they offer a deeper insight into a player's individual performance and contribution to his team. This statistic can help coaches and analysts identify areas for improvement and adjust tactics to maximize the potential of their athletes.

For Gabigol and Flamengo, this data represents a challenge to be overcome. The Rio club has been widely recognized for its powerful attack, and the low offensive efficiency of its leading scorer is a concern that needs to be addressed. The pressure on Gabigol to reverse this trend and start living up to expectations is increasing as Flamengo seeks success in the competitions they are involved in.

However, it is important to note that Gabigol is a player with a track record of success and that, with dedication and hard work, he has the potential to improve his offensive efficiency and return to the top. The player's experience and quality cannot be underestimated, and Flamengo fans certainly hope he overcomes this difficult phase.

The Brazilian Championship is a challenging competition, and players face ups and downs throughout of the season. Gabigol's offensive efficiency may be a momentary challenge, and with the support of the technical team and fans, he has the opportunity to regain his best form and shine again on the pitch.

Football is a sport unpredictable, and Gabigol's story in the current season is still being written. It remains to be seen whether he will be able to overcome this challenge, increase his offensive efficiency and continue to be a fundamental piece in Flamengo's attack. The journey towards redemption will be closely followed by everyone involved in the sport, eager to see how this chapter will unfold in the career of this talented player.
