Flamengo's new football director, José Boto, disembarks in Rio de Janeiro this Saturday (28) to begin work at the club. The Portuguese's contract will last for three years, following the mandate of Luiz Eduardo Baptista, the Bap, new red-black president. Boto will be responsible for leading the professionalization of the football department, a significant challenge, as highlighted by journalist Rodrigo Mattos (UOL).
Challenges ahead
Bap's speech, according to Rodrigo, is clear: Flamengo need to be based on efficiency and professionalism, free from emotional influences or amateurism.
"Bap's speech is that the department has to be managed without the interference of contaminated opinions by the emotion of amateur managers (...) Boto will have the mission, therefore, of receiving directives from the Board of Directors and translating them into actions taken supposedly with the best practices of football efficiency . Without bias, without pitis", said the journalist in his column.
Boto's mission will be to translate the directives of the Board of Directors into practical actions that follow the best practices of modern football. However, Rodrigo emphasizes that the real test will be during moments of failureon the field. In Brazil, it is common for sporting crises to trigger emotional decisions and abrupt changes, something that Boto should avoid.
"It is not an easy task in an environment like Brazilian football, with deep-rooted certainties. There will be a challenge in opposing one's own culture permeated in the country in leaders (even those with business backgrounds), fans and the press. When winning, everything will be rosy. But, in crises, the model is . it will be hard-tested," he added.
First steps with Filipe Luís
Even before arriving in Rio, José Boto had already started work by meeting with coach Filipe Luís in Portugal at the beginning of this week. The meeting served to align the director's first steps at Ninho do Urubu and define what the initial planning of the football department will be like.
O Flamengo is betting on Boto's experience and professionalism to consolidate a new erain red and black football, prioritizing results-based management and strategic planning.

The training schedule at CT George Helal includes activities on Tuesday (16/09) at 9:30 am, Wednesday (17/09) at 3:30 pm, Friday (19/09) at 3:30 pm and Saturday (20/09) at 9:30 am. There will be no activities on Monday (15/09).

Flamengo opened the scoring against Juventude this Sunday (14), at the Alfredo Jaconi Stadium, in Caxias do Sul, for the Brazilian Championship. Despite controlling possession, the team had not yet created clear chances until a play on the left changed the course of the first half.
