The Colombian midfielder Gustavo Cuéllar may be about to make a surprising return to Flamengo. According to sources, Cuéllar was offered to the red-and-black team from Rio, who is looking for a reinforcement for the midfielder position. The player, currently at Al-Shabab, in Saudi Arabia, has advanced negotiations with Corinthians, but the São Paulo team are facing difficulties in closing the deal.

Cuéllar, who has already had a remarkable spell at Flamengo between 2016 and 2019, he was missed by the fans and maintains a strong emotional bond with the club and its fans. Now, with the need for a player with his experience and characteristics, Flamengo is evaluating the possibility of repatriating the midfielder.

CAN FLAMENGO GO UP?

Corinthians has shown interest in count on Gustavo Cuéllar to reinforce their midfield. However, the São Paulo club faces a major challenge: reaching a financial agreement with Al-Shabab. The Saudis are asking for around 5 million euros (approximately R$30.6 million) to release the player. This value has been a significant obstacle for Corinthians, which is looking for alternatives to make the contract viable.

Negotiations between Corinthians and Al-Shabab have been dragging on, and the Corinthians board has explored different possibilities, such as installments value or the inclusion of other players in the negotiation. However, to date, there has been no significant progress in this regard. Faced with the impasse in negotiations between Corinthians and Al-Shabab, Flamengo entered the game.  The Rio club is closely monitoring the situation and has already had preliminary conversations about the possibility of bringing Cuéllar back to Gávea. The Flamengo board sees the Colombian as an important piece to strengthen the squad and provide more balance to the midfield.
