Clube de Regatas do Flamengo secured its presence in the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores after beating Millonarios (COL) 3-0 last Tuesday (28). In this match, which marked the end of the group stage of the continental tournament, the Rubro-Negra team did not concede a single goal while playing as home team at Maracanã.

In addition to ending the Libertadores group stage with an impeccable performance at home, Flamengo did not allow their opponents to find the net at Maracanã on any occasion. In other words, the Rio team beat Palestino (CHI), Bolívar (BOL) and Millonarios by 2×0, 4×0 and 3×0, respectively.

At the end of the group stage of the Copa Libertadores in second place in Group E, with ten points won, Flamengo demonstrated its strength. In its trajectory, the team won three games, drew one and suffered two defeats. The draws and defeats occurred in games played away from home, against Millonarios (1×1), Bolívar (2×1) and Palestino (1×0), respectively.

Flamengo's next participation in the Libertadores is scheduled for the month of August, in the round of 16 that will take place in the weeks of the 14th and 21st. Before that, however, the team will have important commitments ahead. The first of them will be against Vasco, on Sunday (02) at 4pm (Brasília time), in a match valid for the seventh round of the Brasileirão, with Vasco acting as home team at Maracanã.

After leading the Brazilian national team in two World Cups, Tite arrived at Flamengo in 2023 with high expectations. However, despite a record of 70 matches, 41 wins, 13 draws, and 16 losses , the team's performance and the coaching choices were criticized by fans and management. His last game in charge was a 1-0 victory over Athletico-PR, with a goal by Gerson.

With Tite's departure, Filipe Luís took over as Flamengo's coach and has been one of the highlights of the 2025 season . The former full-back has received praise for his work at the club, while Tite remains a free agent, attracting interest from South American clubs and national teams.

According to GE reporter Bruno Cassucci, the Venezuelan Football Federation has opened talks with Tite to take over the team's leadership during the World Cup qualifiers . The goal is to leverage the Brazilian coach's experience to lead the country through the cycle until 2030.

TITE WILL UNDERGO KNEE SURGERY

According to Cassucci, Tite must undergo knee surgery before making a final decision about his career. Even so, the Venezuelan Federation doesn't see the surgery as an obstacle, as the South American qualifiers are on hold after the last FIFA World Cup.
