The board of directors of Flamengo is determined to hold Wesley longer. The club believes that the young player has the potential to be worth much more in the future and, therefore, has refused several proposals that have arrived recently. Wesley, who has stood out since the youth categories and in the opportunities he had in the main team, is seen by the board as an important piece for Flamengo's future.

The club is aware that the transfer market is dynamic and that a player's value can increase significantly over time, especially if he continues to perform well on the field. In recent months, Flamengo has received several proposals for the young player. The information was released by Mauro Cezar Pereira, journalist at UOL Esporte.

FLAMENGO SETS NEW OBJECTIVE

Despite the interest of other clubs, the red and black board has remained firm in the decision of not releasing Wesley at this time. The idea is that he continues to develop his skills and gain even more prominence, which could result in more advantageous financial offers in the future. Flamengo's strategy makes sense when looking at the recent history of players who left the club for abroad.

Young promises like Vinícius Júnior and Lucas Paquetá were sold for high prices after standing out in the first team. The board believes that Wesley can follow a similar path, which justifies the intention to keep him for longer.

Flamengo's current priority is renewing Filipe Luís's contract . The coach's contract runs until the end of 2025 and has already received an offer from the club, which includes an extension until December 2026 , with the option of an automatic renewal for another season.

The main obstacle in the negotiations is financial, but Flamengo 's board believes this won't be a problem. Filipe is expected to present a counteroffer , as his prestige has earned him a salary comparable to that of Brazil's top coaches. This information comes from the 'GE' portal.

EUROPEAN PLAN, BUT FOCUS ON FLAMENGO

Filipe Luís has never hidden his desire to work in Europe at some point in his career . However, he understands that he is still in the process of maturing and is unlikely to take that step now, as the European market tends to be more active in the middle of the year. Therefore, he is likely to remain at Flamengo until at least 2026.

The first proposal was submitted before the Club World Cup, but negotiations were put on hold due to the intense movement during the transfer window. Now, both Filipe's and Arrascaeta's contract renewals are at the top of the club's priorities.

NUMBERS IMPRESS

Flamengo is willing to improve its initial offer to seal the deal quickly. The coach has already won the Copa do Brasil (2024) , as well as the Supercopa do Brasil and the Campeonato Carioca (2025). He is currently leading the Brasileirão and is in the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores.

In charge of the professional team since October 2024, Filipe Luís has only lost six of his 65 matches , with 43 wins and 16 draws. His 74.3% success rate is the best since Jorge Jesus' 81.6% between 2019 and 2020.

CHANGES IN THE RUBRO-NEGRO CAST

The red-and-black team will have some new additions to the team that defeated Barcelona (ESP) in the World Cup final. The starting central defense duo, Iago and João Victor, are with the Brazilian U-20 team , and four world champions have already said goodbye: goalkeeper Lucas Furtado, midfielders Matheus Gonçalves and Lorran, and forward Shola.

Meanwhile, the coach will be counting on the return of Léo Nanneti, one of the heroes of the international triumph. The 18-year-old goalkeeper had a special time completing training with the senior national team at Granja Comary, where he even received praise from Cláudio Taffarel , a four-time world champion. Now, he returns to Flamengo to reinforce the team for the derby.

HOW THE TEAMS ARRIVE

On a roll, Flamengo thrashed Fluminense 4-0 last Saturday (30), away from home, with three goals from Guilherme and one from Joshua . The result put the Garotos do Ninho in second place in the Carioca, with 10 points in four games.

Vasco, meanwhile, leads the competition with 12 points from five matches. In the last round, the Cruzmaltino beat Boavista 2-1 at São Januário. Like Flamengo, their rival will also be without midfielder Leandrinho for the U-20 national team.

Officially presented as a Santos signing , Victor Hugo deviated from the traditional rhetoric in his first press conference . When asked about the new club's structure compared to Flamengo's, the midfielder was candid in acknowledging the club's superiority.

Victor Hugo on the structure of Flamengo and Santos: "it's difficult to make a comparison"

"The structure here at Santos has everything we need to perform at our best. Obviously, when we talk about Flamengo , in terms of structure, it's a very structured club; it's difficult to compare. But here, it's a club that has everything I need to perform , that is becoming increasingly structured. A lot is being renovated, it has everything we need," he stated.

SANTOS FANS REACTION

The statement divided opinions on social media. Some Santos fans considered the question malicious, as it led to a comparison with a club that has invested heavily in infrastructure in recent years. " This question about comparing structures is bizarre ; it seems like they did it on purpose to belittle the club. We all know the structure is way behind, there's no need to use that in the questions," commented one Santos fan.

Other fans, however, criticized the player himself for his bluntness: "You messed up, huh," said one. " As far as I'm concerned, you can give it back to Flamengo now ," quipped another. Also at the press conference, Victor Hugo spoke about Neymar's influence on his acceptance of the Santos project, his favorite position on the field, and the lessons he learned during his time in Europe.

VICTOR HUGO'S RECENT TRAJECTORY

Discovered by Flamengo, Victor Hugo stood out in 2022, but ended up losing ground in the following years. In 2024, he was loaned to Göztepe (TUR), where he remained until mid-2025. Upon returning to the Mais Querido, he had few opportunities: he played only five minutes against Ceará, in the Brasileirão, and after that, Filipe Luís dropped him from his squad.

Without space, he ended up being loaned to Santos until July 31, 2026. Before that, he was close to transferring permanently to Famalicão (POR), but the negotiations fell through after pressure from the red-black fans , who did not accept the possibility of losing the athlete without financial return.
