Gerson and Boto celebrate the renewal of the midfielder's contract with Flamengo until 2030 - check it out

Flamengo officially renewed its contract with midfielder Gerson on Tuesday (8), and he will now remain with the club until December 2030. The decision goes beyond a simple contract extension. It is a clear gesture of appreciation for the athlete who is currently one of the pillars of the red-black squad and a reference on and off the field.

THE CONNECTION WAS ALREADY LONG, BUT THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MADE A POINT OF ANTICIPATING IT

Even with a contract valid until 2027 , Gerson had been seeking a salary adjustment since returning to the club in 2023. The board understood the moment and decided to meet the player's request , increasing his salary and extending his contract for another three seasons . The new agreement also includes the payment of bonuses, with shorter terms for payment.

JOSÉ BOTO EXPLAINS MOTIVATION FOR EARLY RENEWAL

According to technical director José Boto, there was no contractual obligation to review the terms with the midfielder, but the management's stance was to recognize the player's relevance in the current project. “There was no need to renew, because he had a contract for another year and a half. But there was a need to value someone who is very important, on and off the field. That's what happened. We are very happy,” said the director.

Coach Filipe Luís's guidance was essential for the successful conclusion of the negotiations. The coach, who had already shared a dressing room with Gerson as a player , approved all the terms and supported the board's decision to invest in the number 8 in the long term. The harmony between the coaching staff and management helped to strengthen the athlete's position in the squad.

In an interview with "Flamengo TV", Gerson himself celebrated the renewal, thanking the club for its sensitivity in meeting his request for a salary increase . "The management recognized the salary increase, they had no need for it at all. But I'm happy for them to see what I do on the field. The renewal doesn't make me relax, it gives me the fuel to do my best," he said.

Flamengo will have an important reinforcement for the duel this Thursday (18), at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), at Maracanã. Defender Léo Ortiz returns to the starting lineup after serving an automatic suspension in the Brasileirão and is confirmed for the first leg of the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals against Estudiantes.

In addition to Léo Ortiz , other players are available again for Filipe Luís , including Varela and Bruno Henrique, who were rested against Juventude. Alex Sandro and Jorginho, on the other hand, remain doubtful and will have their fitness assessed shortly before the match.

HANGING ROD

Right-back Guillermo Varela, the team's starting right-back, is on the field with a yellow card. If he receives another warning, the Uruguayan will be out of the second leg, scheduled for September 25th at Jorge Luis Hirschi Stadium in La Plata.

To face Estudiantes, Flamengo must maintain the base of the team that has been playing: Rossi; Varela (Emerson Royal), Léo Ortiz, Léo Pereira and Ayrton Lucas (Viña); Saúl, De La Cruz (Jorginho) and Arrascaeta; Plata, Pedro and Samuel Lino.

Eduardo Domínguez will have almost his entire squad available for the game later today. He's expected to field the following: Muslera; Román Gómez, Santiago Núñez, Facundo Rodríguez, and Santiago Arzamendia; Ascacíbar, Gabriel Neves, Amondarain, and Medina; Tiago Palacios and Guido Carrillo.
