At the beginning of the season, Flamengo agreed to sign Hungarian Marko Filipovity. The 27-year-old winger accepted the challenge of playing outside Europe for the first time in his career and signed a contract with Rubro Negro to compete in the NBB. After three months at the club, he commented on the adaptation period and revealed how easy it was to fit in with the squad.
“Very easy (to fit in). Generally I don't have a problem with this. The most important things for me at the beginning were learning the Portuguese words used in the game. This way, during games, you can communicate and understand. Everyone was very kind. The players, the management. After a few days, I already knew where to go and what to do. Basketball is basketball, it wasn't that difficult”, said Filipovity.
Even though he had never left Europe before playing for Rubro Negro, Filipovity is used to changes. He has been playing professionally since he was 17 and has played in Italy, Spain, Turkey and Germany before coming to Brazil. He values the opportunity to discover new places and cultures through basketball: “I learned a lot and lived in cool places. It's basketball anywhere and I was able to discover new parts of the world," he said.
The Hungarian demonstrates that he is already well adapted to Flamengo on the court. Starting most of the season's games, the winger averages 26.1 minutes per game, 13.5 points and 5.1 rebounds per game in the NBB. The athlete is second in rebounds and third in points among all players on the squad.
EMOTION OVER THE BIRTH OF DAUGHTER IN RIO DE JANEIRO
When he agreed with Flamengo, Marko's wife, Genesis, was 30 weeks pregnant. The couple's daughter, Marella, was born on November 23rd and the winger remembers the special day with great affection. He also commented on the fact that his daughter was born in Rio de Janeiro, something unthinkable a short time ago.
“When she was born, I was returning home from Mogi. I went from the game straight to the hospital. They called me by video when she was born. It's an incredible feeling when you see the baby and hold it with your own hands... I never imagined I would have a daughter from Rio. Last year I was in Germany. Life is just crazy. It will be a great memory for us and also for her in the future”, he stated.
“My biggest concerns are that the baby and my wife are living well. Now that my daughter is born, we will have more time to think. I like Brazil, but I don't know if I will live here in the future. I've only been here for two months and the experience is completely positive. I like the food, the culture, I'm adapting to basketball, I have a good relationship with the cast. Everything is great”, concluded the Flamengo winger.
