Despite having a stellar cast on his hands, Tite also works to give players a chance throughout the season. In this sense, with the absence of Erick Pulgar, Allan and Gerson, Igor Jesus once again had the opportunity among the starters and did the job. Upon leaving the stadium, the young man revealed that he looks up to João Gomes, who shone with the red-black shirt between 2020 and 2022 and is currently a standout for England's Wolverhampton.

"I'm happy, I thank everyone for their affection and support that everyone has been giving me. I've never had much contact with João Gomes, but he's also a guy who inspires me a lot. A guy who had a lot of peace of mind here at Flamengo, when it came to the transition of taking the step to become a professional, he took advantage opportunities and made a lot of history. I believe I can work hard to reach the peak where he is," he said.

On the field, the player stood out in the 4-0 rout of Boavista, at Maracanã , last Tuesday (20), by Carioca. At the age of 20, he assisted Luiz Araújo's goal and was the athlete who recovered the most balls with four tackles, 78 successful passes (94% accuracy).

"It's a moment that creates expectations, but We know the quality of the group. You have to be calm and patient so that when the moment comes you are ready. You have to dedicate yourself to the maximum. (…) This is the Igor Jesus you have seen. Professor Tite makes us feel very comfortable. Everyone the players too. They contribute to us being able to deliver our best in the game, in training too, and they help a lot in this transition. (…) Tite makes us feel important in the group so we can do our best on the field" , he added.

With seven games without conceding goals this season, Flamengo returns to the field on Sunday, at 4 pm (Brasília time), for the decisive game against Fluminense, in the Guanabara Cup. The arch-rivals have 21 points with two rounds remaining, but Rubro-Negro is ahead as they have the most positive goal difference.
