Absolute titleholder with Tite, Varela has been experiencing a unique moment since arriving at Flamengo, in mid-2022. After all, for the first time the Uruguayan had a run in the team. On the other hand, the intense pace of games is considered a problem for the full-back, who pointed out the heavy calendar of Brazilian and South American football as an obstacle for teams to perform at 100% in all matches.

"In Brazil, the sequence of games is much more difficult, too. It's very difficult to have to play every three days, to be traveling, we get very tired. Now we went to Colombia, also Bolivia, games at altitude… This makes it very difficult the player's physicality and it is very difficult for us to always be at 100% (conditions). This point makes football here sometimes more difficult than in Europe", said Varela, in an interview with 'ESPN'.

< Varela arrived at Flamengo in mid-2022, but made just six appearances, being the third option for Dorival Júnior's team, behind Rodinei and Matheuzinho. Last year, he ended the Brasileirão as a starter, already under the command of Tite, ending the season with 21 games. This year, absolutely with the coach from Rio Grande do Sul, he has already entered the field 13 times and scored the first goal with Manto Sagrado, in Carioca's debut, against Audax.

Revealed in categories As a youth player at Peñarol (URU), Varela completed his training in Europe, when he played for Manchester United's (ING) under-21 team and played for Real Madrid Castilla (ESP). Subsequently, the full-back spent time in Germany and Denmark, until arriving at Dinamo Moscow (RUS), where he played two seasons before signing with Flamengo. Therefore, after much of his career on the Old Continent, the athlete is well aware of the difference in 'load' in relation to Brazil.

After winning the Rio title on Sunday (07), Varela and his teammates Flamengo won't have much time to rest. After all, Rubro-Negro enters the field this Wednesday (10), against Palestino (CHI), in the second round of Group E of the Copa Libertadores de América.
