The Flamengoended its 2024 season in a draw against Vitória, in the last round of the Brazilian Championship. Now, while the players are enjoying their vacation, the red and black board is already starting to plan for the future, especially with regard to the contracts of athletes that are close to ending. Among the names on the agenda are Guillermo Varela, Erick Pulgar, Matheus Cunha and Cleiton, whose relationship with the club ends at the end of 2025.
WHO ARE THE ATHLETES
Erick Pulgar, a 30-year-old Chilean, stood out as one of the main players on the squad in 2024. With 101 games for Flamengo, 47 of which were just this season, the midfielder contributed with two goals and nine assists. Despite facing occasional criticism, mainly due to the accumulation of cards, Pulgar is considered a key player in Filipe Luís' scheme. -irrefusavel-para-renovar-com-o-chileno-eric-pulgar" target="_blank">Flamengo is already working internally on renewing its contract, but faces competition from Neom SC, from Saudi Arabia, who showed interest in the playerr. The proposal has not yet officially arrived, but it is being looked at carefully by the red and black board.
Uruguayan right-back Guillermo Varela, 31 years old, had an unstable season in 2024. At 46 games played, he alternated starting with Wesley and ended the year as a reserve. Although he scored his first two goals for Flamengo, Varela is not unanimous among fans. Peñarol, the club that revealed the player, is monitoring Varela's situation and may present a proposal soon. Despite this, the full-back has already expressed his desire to remain at Flamengo and compete for the position next year.
Goalkeeper Matheus Cunha, aged 23, was revealed by Flamengoand had specific opportunities in 2024, totaling 12 games in the season. He participated in the goalkeeper rotation promoted by Tite, but lost space with the arrival of Filipe Luís. Without official proposals, Matheus Cunha remains focused on gaining more minutes on the field. His market value, estimated at €3 million (R $ 18.8 million), reinforces the potential for growth in the red and black squad.
Cleiton, a 21-year-old defender, played just five games in 2024, starting in a single opportunity. Despite little use, it is seen as one of the promises for the future. With Léo Pereira, David Luiz, Fabrício Bruno and Léo Ortiz ahead in the hierarchy, Cleiton will have to take advantage of his chances in 2025 to consolidate his space in the first team.
WHAT WILL BE THE PLANNING
Flamengo's board is aware of the importance of defining the contractual situation of these athletes before the end of 2025. Strategic renewals and possible negotiations could have an impact the club's financial and sporting planning for the coming seasons. With foreign clubs, especially from Saudi Arabia, paying attention to players like Pulgar and Varela,Flamengo will need to decide between renewing contracts or making room for new signings. Movement in the market will be decisive in defining the 2025 squad.
Alvinegro still owed Mengão for the signing of Matheuzinho, but managed to deposit a huge amount to close the matter.

Flamengo received, this Friday (1st), another millionaire amount related to the sale of right-back Matheuzinho. Corinthians paid around R$ 14 million to Rubro-Negro , paying off the remaining amount of the negotiation made in February of this year.
At the time, the Rio de Janeiro club sold the player for R$21.48 million, but Corinthians delayed the third installment of the agreement. As a result, Flamengo demanded immediate payment of the entire outstanding amount . The information was initially reported by the portal Meu Timão.
To facilitate the payment, Corinthians signed an agreement with Brax, the company responsible for marketing advertising signs for both clubs. The company acted as guarantor for the deal and transferred the funds to Flamengo .
By August, Corinthians had already paid R$8 million directly to the Rio de Janeiro club. It then transferred R$7.58 million to Brax , which topped up the amount with another R$6 million , fully settling the debt with the club.
While the board celebrates receiving the amount, Flamengo remains focused on the field. The team led by Filipe Luís returns to play this Sunday (3), against Ceará, at 6:30 pm (Brasília time), at Arena Castelão, for the 18th round of the Brasileirão. The match will be broadcast live on Premiere, on pay-per-view.

Flamengo has already made four signings official this transfer window , but the delay in negotiations has drawn criticism from some fans . During striker Samuel Lino's presentation, football director José Boto spoke out on the matter and apologized to the Flamengo Nation.
“Sometimes things take a little longer than the fans want, and I apologize to the fans, but we ( Flamengo 's board) have fixed ideas, and as long as it's possible to have the players we want , we'll go after it,” explained Boto.
Brazilian football's second transfer window opened on July 10th, and Flamengo began the period cautiously, monitoring the market and evaluating options. As the weeks progressed, the board accelerated negotiations and secured four key signings : Saúl Ñíguez, Emerson Royal, Samuel Lino, and Jorge Carrascal.
Despite the names already confirmed, Flamengo remains attentive to the market. The club is in ongoing negotiations with Fiorentina, Italy, to sign striker Lucas Beltrán . Flamengo has already agreed on a fee with the Italian club, but still needs to convince the Argentine player to return to South America.
While the board works behind the scenes, the squad led by Filipe Luís focuses on the challenges on the field. Flamengo's next match is this Sunday (3), against Ceará , at 6:30 pm (Brasília time), at Castelão, for the 18th round of the Brazilian Championship.
