While Arsenal takes to the field this Tuesday (29) to face PSG, in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals, Flamengo continues to pay full attention to a player who will be out of the match: Jorginho. The 32-year-old midfielder suffered a chest injury in early April and has been out of action since then.
The injury occurred on April 12, during the match against Brentford, in the Premier League. Since then, the Brazilian naturalized Italian has not returned to training with the group. Despite being injured, Jorginho continues to be a target for Flamengo 's board for the rest of the season. The information was confirmed by sources linked to the negotiations . The contract with the English club ends in June, which allows Rubro-Negro to seek an agreement without transfer costs.
Flamengo understands that the thoracic injury does not compromise the player's career and is working on the possibility of counting on him in the second half of the year. The coach also explained why he chose Nenê and Alan Ruschel as starters. According to him, the idea was to prioritize possession and exploit set pieces , but the plan didn't pan out, largely due to Flamengo 's own style of play.
"It was more of a coincidence than a strategy, playing at home. Nenê gives us support and rhythm, as well as the set pieces. Alan played well, as did Hermes . We have a group, and we'll choose the best options based on our daily routine," added the Juventude coach.

In the last match before facing Flamengo , Estudiantes was defeated by River Plate 2-1 this Saturday (13), in La Plata , for the Argentine Championship , in the teams' last commitment before the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores. Both are now preparing to face Brazilian opponents.
The team led by Marcelo Gallardo will face Palmeiras, while Estudiantes will face Flamengo . River's clash takes place on Wednesday (17), in Buenos Aires. The Argentines from La Plata begin the duel against Mais Querido on Thursday (18), at Maracanã .
River started strong and opened the scoring after just 5 minutes , with Giuliano Galoppo, who played for São Paulo in Brazil. Shortly after, in the 12th minute, Nacho Fernández, formerly of Atlético-MG, doubled the lead.
Still in the first half, defender Martínez Quarta was sent off, leaving the visitors with ten men. Even so, Estudiantes barely capitalized on their numerical superiority and only managed to pull one back in stoppage time, thanks to a header from Santiago Núñez.
Rubro-Negro faces Estudiantes in the quarterfinals of the CONMEBOL Libertadores. The first leg will be played at the Maracanã Stadium on September 18th at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), and will be broadcast on ESPN and Disney+ .
This will be the ninth official matchup between the teams. In the eight previous meetings, Flamengo won three, drew four, and lost only one to the Argentines . The return leg will be in Argentina, deciding who advances to the semifinals.
