In the 3-1 victory over Chelsea-ENG , on Friday (20), in the second round of the Club World Cup, Flamengo demonstrated resilience on the field. After a mistake by young Wesley in the first half , the opponent opened the scoring with Pedro Neto. The right-back lost possession of the ball in midfield, which gave the rival striker the chance to advance freely into the area and shake the net at Lincoln Financial Field, in Philadelphia.
Right after the play, the number 43 was surrounded by more experienced teammates. Midfielder Jorginho, starting for the second time under Filipe Luís, shared the content of the conversation with the athlete:
Jorginho reveals message to Flamengo's Wesley: "We trust him"
“ (We said) To lift our heads and move on to the next one , without regretting what happened. We trust him, he is a great player and he knows it. It’s about playing football, we trust all the players and we help each other”, he declared to “ CazéTV ”.
In the second half, Flamengo reacted. Bruno Henrique, coming off the bench, was decisive: he scored a goal and also set up Danilo for the comeback. The third and final goal came from Wallace Yan, who secured the positive result and confirmed the team's good moment in the international tournament. Despite the error in the first half of the game, Wesley played an active role in Flamengo's offensive actions. With the score already favorable, he was replaced in the final minutes by Varela.
In a post-match interview, the full-back revealed what went through his mind during the goal and made sure to acknowledge the support of his teammates: “ I never want to make a mistake, but something unfortunate happened. I thought about controlling the ball, I thought about passing it over. Neto was lucky enough to score the goal. One thing Danilo told me is that at that moment, the men are separated from the boys. I focused, my teammates supported me and, after that, that was the result we had,” said Wesley.

This Wednesday (20), Flamengo and Internacional will face each other again in the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores . HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR THE GAME
Flamengo and Internacional recently faced each other in both the Brasileirão and the Libertadores, with Flamengo coming out on top on both occasions. However , this Wednesday's match is considered the most important , as it determines who will advance in the continental competition.
Colorado will have the advantage of playing at home, at Beira-Rio, while Mengão arrives with confidence after two consecutive victories over their rivals : 1-0 in the first leg of the Libertadores round of 16 and 3-1 in the Brazilian Championship.
For the match, coach Filipe Luís is counting on the return of two key reinforcements: Danilo and De La Cruz. Both offer additional midfield options , bolstering the squad for the decisive match. Flamengo's likely starting lineup is: Agustín Rossi; Varela, Léo Ortiz, Léo Pereira, and Alex Sandro; Allan, Jorginho, and Arrascaeta; Gonzalo Plata, Samuel Lino, and Bruno Henrique (Pedro).
The midfielder quickly became one of Mengão's highlights after his signing and won over fans and analysts.

Flamengo beat Internacional 3-1 last Sunday (17), in Porto Alegre, and one of the highlights of the match was Jorginho . The Italian-Brazilian midfielder received praise from the national press, especially from former player Denílson, who highlighted the athlete's regularity and intelligence throughout the season.
Denílson on Flamengo's Jorginho: "He rarely misses a pass"
"Flamengo is suffocating Internacional, but I want to say this: I used to follow Jorginho's football, a naturalized Italian and midfielder, although not as often as now. Today I've been watching him more closely and... how well he plays !", said Denílson, during the Seleção SporTV program this Monday (18).
The former Brazilian national team player also highlighted the midfielder's quality in distributing the play: "He's very intelligent. He rarely misses a pass. And it's not just sideways passes, it's always forward . What a player!" concluded the former Flamengo player.
Jorginho played 67 minutes at Beira-Rio before being replaced by Jorge Carrascal. During his time on the pitch, the midfielder completed 90% of his passes , had a 100% completion rate, and also contributed defensively with three key plays.
With Jorginho available, Flamengo will face Internacional again this Wednesday (20), at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), at Beira-Rio. The match will be valid for the second leg of the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores and will be broadcast by Rede Globo, ESPN and Disney+.
The defender is one of Mengão's standout players and has been a regular starter since last season and could be on his way to the current Italian champion.

Flamengo defender Léo Ortiz continues to attract attention in European football . This time, it is Napoli who appears to be interested in the defender . Representatives of the Italian club will be at Beira-Rio, this Wednesday (20), to observe the player in the match against Internacional, valid for the round of 16 of the Libertadores.
The name appeals to coach Antonio Conte, but there has been no official movement so far. Internally, Flamengo considers a potential sale unlikely. The club has no desire to negotiate another starter this summer and would only part with the defender if an offer is deemed "irrefusable."
In July, Germany's RB Leipzig formalized a proposal worth approximately €15 million (R$95.6 million) , which was rejected by the club. The German interest was directly linked to the fact that Ortiz had played for Bragantino, a team within the same franchise, for five seasons.
To facilitate a future transfer, the defender obtained an Italian passport in 2023, which prevents him from taking up foreign spots in leagues that impose a limit on players from outside the European Union — a factor that further boosts his reputation on the market.
In addition to Leipzig and Napoli, Juventus and Roma have also been investigating the defender's situation. However, only the German side have submitted an official offer . The European transfer window remains open until September 2nd.
In 2025, Léo Ortiz has already played 40 games, scored four goals, and provided two assists, making him one of Filipe Luís's most used players . His good form has also led to him being called up for the last three FIFA dates. Now, he hopes to be on Carlo Ancelotti's list for the Brazilian national team's upcoming matches against Chile and Bolivia.
