Juventude ended its preparations for the match against Flamengo this Wednesday (16), at 9:30 pm, at Maracanã, for the fourth round of the Brazilian Championship. The team from Caxias do Sul, led by Fábio Matias, will have important changes in the starting lineup . The coach, who has already worked at the base of the Rio de Janeiro club, needed to adapt the team due to absences and tactical preferences.

GIRALDO'S FORCED EXIT AND YOUNG DEFENDER'S DEBUT

The main absence is midfielder Daniel Giraldo, who will comply with the concussion protocol determined by the CBF after colliding in the last match. To fill his spot, Fábio Matias should field youngster Davi Góes, who has the opportunity to start for the first time in the Brasileirão. Another adjustment will be in the attacking command. Matheus Babi, who scored the winning goal against Ceará on Saturday, should return to the starting lineup in place of Gabriel Taliari. The choice rewards the center forward's good form and could offer him more physical presence against the Mais Querido defense.

PREVIOUS LINEUP CONFIRMS STRATEGY WITH LOW LINES

Juventude's likely starting lineup includes: Gustavo in goal; Ewerthon, Abner, Adriano Martins and Felipinho in defense; Davi Góes, Jadson and Mandaca in midfield; Giovanny, Batalla and Matheus Babi forming the attacking trio . The idea is to maintain defensive consistency and exploit counterattacks. Juventude can also count on reinforcements from the medical department. Defender Rodrigo Sam and center forward Gilberto trained with the group and could be included, but should start on the bench. Peixoto, Caíque and Cipriano are still out due to injury. Petterson, on loan from Flamengo, is out of the game due to contract.

The team from Rio Grande do Sul comes into the match in third place in the table, with six points. Mengão leads with seven, the same number as Palmeiras, but with an advantage in goal difference. Whoever wins at Maracanã could end the round alone at the top of the Brasileirão. With a history of different performances at home and away , Juventude should repeat the strategy used away from home: defensive compactness and quick exit. Even without major changes in the formation, Fábio Matias should ask for a more defensive marking, trying to contain the red-black creative sector.

Reading the opponent and the need to protect the defensive system may lead Juventude to use one of the forwards as an assistant in the recovery, forming a second line of four. Depending on the pressure from Flamengo, there is a chance of variation to a line of five defenders. This configuration once again puts the creative sector of the team led by Filipe Luís to the test. The Rio de Janeiro team, which has yet to win at home in the Brasileirão, will have another challenge against an opponent that tends to close up and seek few, but efficient, attacks.

Flamengo defeated Argentina's Estudiantes 2-1 at the Maracanã Stadium . The red-and-black team decided the match in the first half with goals from Pedro and Varela. Mengão gave Estudiantes no time to breathe in Rio de Janeiro with a lightning goal.

Just 15 seconds in, Pedro capitalized on a pass from Plata, turned on his marker, and fired a left-footed shot to open the scoring. The quick goal undermined Argentina's strategy and galvanized the Rio de Janeiro team, who continued to press. A few minutes later, Ayrton Lucas crossed from the left and Varela hit a beautiful volley into Muslera's corner, extending the red-and-blacks' lead in the first half.

RED-BLACK DOMINATION

Even with a two-goal lead, Flamengo maintained control and nearly made it three with Pedro, whose shot was spectacularly saved by the Uruguayan goalkeeper. Estudiantes , for their part, barely threatened Rossi's goal and only managed to partially level the score in the final minutes of the first half . The feeling at Maracanã was that the 2-0 scoreline was a cheap one for the visitors.

SECOND HOT WEATHER

In the second half, the pace dropped. Coach Eduardo Domínguez made substitutions, trying to give the Argentine team more momentum, but he ran into the red-and-black defense. The match was not without its tense moments, with cards for Saúl, Samuel Lino, and Alexis Castro, and Plata's sending-off after a second yellow card in a dispute with Facundo Rodríguez . At the end of the second half, Estudiantes scored in the 46th minute to leave the match open in Argentina.

NEXT COMMITMENTS

With the 2-1 victory, Flamengo takes the lead in the quarterfinals of the Libertadores. The return leg is scheduled for the 25th, at 9:30 pm, at the Jorge Luis Hirschi Stadium, in Argentina.
