Flamengo secured a victory by 1-0 against Corinthians this Wednesday (2), at Maracanã, in the first game of the Copa do Brasil semi-final. The winning goal was scored by Alex Sandro, in a game that was also marked by the players' reflection on the recent change of technical command at the club. The arrival of Filipe Luís to replace Tite was one of the main topics of debate between the team and the press.
Defender Léo Ortiz , in an interview after the game, highlighted that the difficult phase experienced by Mengão was not the exclusive responsibility of Tite, the team's former coach. According to Ortiz, the players also had their share of responsibility in the difficult moment the club was facing.
“The change of coach happens because It's difficult to change some or all of the players. The coach is changed, but it’s not just his fault. Everyone has their share of defeats and eliminations. This became evident on Sunday (29), when it became clear that people were not satisfied with everyone's performance. When this change occurs, there is reflection among the players, who also feel guilty for the failure. The coach is always the one who leaves, but we, the players, remain reflective and try to respond on the field in the next game”, commented the defender.
IMPROVISATION BY LÉO ORTIZ AS STEERING WHEEL
Léo Ortiz also addressed the issue of his improvisation as a midfielder during Tite's management. The player explained that, at first, he didn't feel completely comfortable in his new role, despite having accepted the challenge.
"Maybe Tite didn't express himself the way he wanted. There was the impression that I didn't want to play in the position, but that never happened. In the beginning, I didn't feel so comfortable playing as a midfielder, playing less. on the ball, but I evolved and had a good run. My relationship with Tite has always been peaceful, and I'm very grateful to him if he hadn't given me this opportunity, I might not even be at the club", explained Ortiz, reinforcing that he wouldn't be. was there any friction between him and the former coach.
