On Thursday afternoon (21), Marcos Braz, who holds the position of vice-president of football at Flamengo, held a press conference at CT Ninho do Urubu with the aim of clarifying the controversy surrounding the attack on a red-black fan last Tuesday (19). During one of the responses, the manager gave a statement about the incident and claimed to be the victim in the case.

“When I was in the store, at the back of the store. Two or three people and a few more people at the back started making demands. Various events. At that moment, which lasted a few minutes, I didn't open my mouth, I didn't say anything at all. All the charges, everything that was done, threats, I didn't open my mouth. Everything will be in the images. People started filming and I didn't open my mouth. They left and I remained there. Talking to the saleswoman, I arrived, my daughter arrived with two friends. My daughter gives me a kiss, hugs me, sees the gift and me inside the store.

After that, she leaves the store and stands in front of the store, but on the right. When she leaves, the boy who had the problem arrives. He arrives and starts threatening. This time, in a different way in relation to my daughter who was there. So much so that in the recordings they made, I never appear to be talking to my daughter. For this guy, my daughter was right there, who will appear in the filming. It's a shame to say that I was safe.

My daughter was next to me and I talk to the guy that my daughter was next to me. He’s talking, talking, talking… “boy, my daughter is here”. I lost sight of her, as the store is narrow. They were closer to him than I was, and that bothered me, until I had a 14-year-old daughter, seeing her father being threatened with death. I started talking to him, in his direction, asking him to stop because my daughter was there. He said “f*ck your daughter” and you saw the end.

I went out looking for my daughter. What was my calculation there? I don't go to the parking lot because I don't have security, Flamengo doesn't give me security. I went back to the store for obvious reasons. Then I started calmly on the phone, I saw that the video had gone viral. I made a comment to the guy inside the store: “if we had gotten into a fight, if my daughter had had a problem, they would already be laughing, far away”. So I decided not to go out because they could call more people, because they were already calling on the internet. I've been persecuted for some time. (...)

Maybe I had a different situation. A different attitude. For this, to be threatened from my daughter's side, with her also being threatened verbally, I was not prepared. I'm not diminishing the severity. It's one thing to be threatened on the internet, it's another to have a crazy person tell you in person that he's going to kill you. I apologize for the event, not the person. I apologize for not having prepared myself for the threat of my daughter's death. Because I have two or three journalists here who give me good feedback, and on the radio a lot. I don't confuse things. But I can’t have a systemic threatening situation from my daughter’s side”, declared Marcos Braz, in a press conference.

Estudiantes is already in Rio de Janeiro for the first leg of the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals against Flamengo , scheduled for Thursday (18), at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), at Maracanã. The Argentine team trained at Fluminense's facilities , preparing for the decisive duel.

Coach Eduardo Domínguez tested a more conservative formation, including an extra defensive midfielder in midfield, as a strategy to contain Flamengo's attacks. According to Radio Província 1270 in La Plata, the change could result in only one striker on the field , demonstrating a more solid defensive posture.

LINEUP AND POSSIBLE CHANGES

Estudiantes ' likely lineup for the clash includes: Muslera; Gómez, Nuñez, Rodríguez, Arzamendia; Ascacibar, Piovi, Amondarain, Medina, Tiago Palacios; Carrillo.

It's not yet clear whether Piovi will play as an extra midfielder or be replaced by Castro . Amondarain, despite being an attacking midfielder, could drop back and act as a third midfielder, depending on Domínguez's strategy in recent training sessions.

FLAMENGO WILL HAVE A CHALLENGE

With the prospect of a more closed Argentine team, Flamengo, under the command of Filipe Luís, will have to work hard to break down Estudiantes' defense and seek a positive result in the first leg of the Libertadores quarterfinals.
