On the night of last Wednesday (17), Flamengo suffered a setback away from home when they were beaten by Santos, in a match valid for the Brazilian Championship. Without counting on the full-backs Alex Sandro and Ayrton Lucas , both recovering in the medical department, coach Filipe Luís opted to field Uruguayan Guillermo Varela, a right-back, improvised on the left side.
The decision surprised some fans, as Matías Viña was available on the bench. According to reports, the defender has recovered from his injury and is in full physical condition. However, the coaching staff has taken a cautious approach by avoiding using him in higher-intensity matches at this time.
The internal justification is that the upcoming, more "calm" games will serve as an opportunity to gradually reintroduce the player to the field, without the risk of aggravation. Even so, choosing Varela as a substitute has remained a recurring strategy for Filipe Luís in recent weeks.
In a press conference after the game against São Paulo, the coach commented on the athlete's situation: " Viña also came back from a very serious injury and I believe he is not yet at the level of his teammates to be able to compete in a game like he was. I'm trying to give him the minutes when I can, for example, he came on in a game against Fortaleza, he also came on in a game in the World Cup," said Filipe.
With the negative result against Peixe, Flamengo seeks to find its way back to winning ways this Sunday (20), when it faces Fluminense at Maracanã, at 7:30 pm, for the 15th round of the Brasileirão. The team remains at the top of the table and, even with the absences and improvisations, aims to remain in the fight for the national title.

After serving a suspension in the victory over Vasco, left-back Reinaldo returns to the team, taking Felipe Jonatan's place . Leão's top scorer in the Brasileirão, the number 6 has seven goals in the competition and is the team's official penalty taker.
Mirassol's likely lineup is : Walter; Lucas Ramon, João Victor, Jemmes and Reinaldo; Neto Moura, Danielzinho and Gabriel; Negueba, Edson Carioca and Chico da Costa.
