The former referee, and current commentator, Paulo César de Oliveira ('PC') gave his professional opinion about the offside against Gabigol in Mengão's last game. Among his notes, 'PC' argued that the images chosen for both the VAR evaluation and for television broadcast were poorly selected. Even though a decision has been taken, he understands the climate of distrust established after the game.
Flamengo beat Athlético-PR, by 2-0, this Wednesday (12th), in the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey. Brazil. This game could have ended with three goals from Mengão if one of them had not been disallowed. Referee Bráulio Machado made the decision to mark Gabigol's move offside after evaluating images provided by VAR. In the images transmitted to the public, it could be assumed that the offside was a mistake.
The move in question took place in the second half. Arrascaeta gave a deep pass to Gabigol, who started in the same line as defender Thiago Heleno. The number 10 dribbled goalkeeper Bento and sent it to the bottom of the net. On the screen at the Arena da Baixada, the VAR lines were displayed, and the striker left to celebrate, convinced that he was fit.
Globo Group commentator Paulo César de Oliveira criticized the choice of camera used to plot the VAR lines. In his opinion-as a former sports judge-the offside “may have been the right decision, but it doesn't convey credibility.”
“By rule, arms don't count towards the offside. Therefore, the line has to be drawn on the player's shoulder. From that angle, so far away, it was not clear which point he used”, explained ‘PC’ referring to all the images used to criticize the refereeing team. He also added: “With this image, blurred and distant, the impression that remains is that it was drawn on the arm.”
The commentator completed his argument by showing in the program in which he participated other options of angles that could have been used to clarify the impediment. Without the credibility that the specialist comments on, the reaction of Flamengo's board of directors to ask for a direct intervention in the matter is justifiable. The CBF, however, has already clarified the case, maintaining the impediment and defending the refereeing team responsible for the game.

Flamengo drawn 1-1 with Vasco this Sunday (15), in the 26th round of the Brasileirão. In the post-game press conference, Tite expressed his dissatisfaction with Raphael Claus' refereeing, criticizing the criteria adopted by the referee in a move that resulted in the Vasco team's goal.
“For me, it was a foul. at Léo Pereira, and it's outside the area, but there's an imbalance behind. We and Bahia whistled there. He gave it to Michael. The criteria confuse me. Claus confuses me.
