The word "perfection" should be used with care in sport, but it does not seem absurd to use it to define the debut of the Brazilian handball team in the Paris Olympics. With great performance on all sides of the court, Brazil beat Spain 29 to 18 this Thursday (25), at Arena Paris Sul. The triumph, valid for Group B, was the first for the Brazilians over the Spanish in clashes officers.

The goalkeeper Gabriela Moreschi was one of the Brazilian highlights in the match. She had a 45% success rate, defending 14 of 31 Spanish shots. The interventions even caught the attention of fans, who made Gabi's name go viral on social media.

In attack, Brazil also did well. He had a 66% success rate, converting 29 shots out of 44 attempted. Bruna de Paula and Patricia finished as the team's top scorers, with six goals each.

Earlier, in another Group B game Paris Olympics, the Netherlands beat Angola 34 to 31. Hungary and France still face each other this Thursday, at 2pm (Brasília time). The handball tournament has two brackets, with six teams each. The four best placed teams advance to the quarterfinals.

The Brazilian women's team, world champion in 2013, is competing in the Olympics for the seventh time and is looking for its first medal. In Tokyo 2020, they still fell in the group stage. Years earlier, at Rio 2016, they reached fifth place, the best campaign in an edition of the Games to date.

After the victory over Spain, Brazil will return to the Arena Paris Sul court on Sunday, in front of Hungary, at 4am (Brasília time). Next, they will face France (current Olympic champion), the Netherlands and Angola, in that order.

Two young talents revealed by Flamengo shone in Europe this Saturday (14). Goalkeeper Kauã Santos made his Bundesliga debut for Eintracht Frankfurt, helping the team to a 2-1 victory over Wolfsburg. Kauã entered the field after the experienced Kevin Trapp was injured at the end of the first half. Meanwhile, defender Léo Duarte scored his first goal in European football, securing Basaksehir's 1-0 victory over Bodrum in the Turkish league.

Kauã Santos, who arrived at Flamengo at the age of 16, he never played for the Rio club's main team. After standing out in the youth categories, the goalkeeper caught the attention of Eintracht Frankfurt, who invested R$8.4 million for 70% of his economic rights. On his debut, Kauã was unable to save a penalty taken by Baku, but held off Wolfsburg's pressure, helping to maintain his team's victory.

In turn, Léo Duarte, Copinha champion, rose to Flamengo professionals in 2016 and, little by little, established himself as a starter. In 2018, Milan, from Italy, spent 11 million euros to sign him. After a discreet spell at the Italian club, Léo transferred to Basaksehir, where he finally scored for the first time in Europe.

Léo Duarte and Kauã Santos' moment in Europe

Léo Duarte's Basaksehir occupies third place in the Turkish league with 10 points, just two less than leader Galatasaray. Kauã Santos' Eintracht Frankfurt is in sixth place in the Bundesliga, with six points, three behind leaders Bayern Munich.

Brazil ended its participation in the Paris Paralympics this Sunday (8) with its best campaign in the history of the competition. According to the objective established by the Brazilian Paralympic Committee, the Brazilian delegation in Paris broke the record for medals in a single edition of the Games, with 89, achieved the highest number of golds, 25, and secured the unprecedented top 5 in the medals table.

It was not easy to secure fifth place. After spending the first few days among the five best countries at the Paralympics, Brazil came to occupy eighth place in the medals quarter at the end of Thursday (5), four days before the end of the Games. But from Friday (6) recovery came. With four gold medals won, Brazil reached seventh place and came up against France and Italy, which would become the great opponent for fifth place.

Medal after medal, Brazil and Italy fought for the top 5 in the table of medals. On Saturday (7), Brazilian athletes secured the country's best day in the history of the Paralympics with six golds, three silvers and seven bronzes, and sixth place in the classification. With such a performance, Brazil surpassed the 72 podiums and 22 gold medals from Tokyo 2022, achieving its best campaign in both categories.

However, it still lacked a position in the top five. The Italians had 24 gold medals, one more gold medal than Brazil, and slept in fifth place. That would change this Sunday morning (8).

In the first events of the last day of the race, Brazil won two more gold medals and overtook Italy. First, Fernando Rufino was champion in canoeing, winning gold in the 200m VL2 and leaving the countries tied. The race also had another Brazilian on the podium. Igor Tofalini finished in second place and took silver. Then, in the event that would bring the top 5 to Brazil, Tayana Medeiros broke the Paralympic record by lifting 156kg in the 86kg category and took gold.

Italy did not win any competition and no longer competes in competitions. Thus, Brazil guaranteed its best campaign in the history of the Paralympics. The great Brazilian highlights, as usual, were athletics, which reached its 200th medals won, and swimming, with 36 for the first and 26 for the second discipline.
