Flamengo has officially sold 20-year-old striker Shola Ogundana to Dynamo Kyiv (UKR). The player passed his medical exams, signed a contract until 2027 and was announced by the Ukrainian club this Monday (01).
Even though his contract expires in 2027, the club opted for negotiations after concluding that the striker wouldn't have an immediate place in the main squad . In the transaction, the club guaranteed financial compensation and retained 50% of Shola 's economic rights. The board is banking on the player's future value, confident in his potential to excel in European football.
Shola shone in Flamengo 's youth academy, playing a key role in their U-20 Libertadores victories in 2024 and 2025. In the second edition, he was named the tournament's best player. The striker also participated in the U-20 Intercontinental Cup victories in the same years.
In total, he played 46 matches, scoring 9 goals and providing 7 assists for the U-20 team . His performance earned him the nickname "Nigerian Rocket" due to his speed and intensity on the wings—a nickname that quickly caught on with the fans.
In November 2024, Shola made his first-team debut against Atlético-MG in the Brasileirão. He replaced Carlos Alcaraz in the second half and made history as the first Nigerian to wear the Flamengo jersey in official competitions, as well as the third African to represent the club.

Flamengo drew 1-1 with Grêmio last Sunday (31), in a match valid for the 22nd round of the Brasileirão. With the Maracanã packed, the duel kept Rubro-Negro at the top of the competition . After the game, the squad received four days off .
This Tuesday (02), the players arrive at the second consecutive day of rest, since on Monday (01) the FIFA Data period began, which paralyzes the national calendar during the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers . According to the official schedule, the team returns to activities on Friday (05), at Ninho do Urubu , where coach Filipe Luís resumes the team's preparation for the rest of the season.
Despite the draw, Flamengo remains the undisputed leader of the Brazilian Championship, with 47 points . Palmeiras, which was in second place, dropped to third place after tying with Corinthians and remaining at 43 points. Cruzeiro thus moved into second place with 44 points.
The club had six athletes called up to defend their national teams in September:

Atlético-MG has opened negotiations to bring back Jorge Sampaoli , formerly of Flamengo, as the team's head coach. The Argentine coach gained traction at the club after failing in negotiations with Martín Anselmi and is already considered the favorite to take over.
The first negotiations, which began on Monday night (01), are being conducted virtually. Sampaoli currently lives in Rio de Janeiro. The information was published by the newspaper O Tempo. On social media, part of the Galo fans are already mobilizing in support of the coach's return .
Without a club since leaving Rennes in France, Sampaoli has had a low-key run in European football. In charge of the French team, he played 10 games, winning just 3 and losing 7 , in a period of about two months.
His first stint at Atlético-MG was between 2020 and 2021, with 45 matches, totaling 25 wins, 9 draws, and 10 losses . Despite finishing three points short of the Brazilian title, the Argentine is remembered as a key player in the formation of the squad that would win historic titles in 2021, as he indicated the signing of most of the players.
Sampaoli arrives to replace Cuca, who was fired after the 2-0 loss to Cruzeiro in the first leg of the Copa do Brasil quarterfinals at Arena MRV. Pressure had already been mounting, and the setback against their biggest rival was a key factor in the coach's departure.
In 2023, Sampaoli also managed Flamengo , accumulating 39 games, with 20 wins. Despite this, he left the club with criticism , after eliminations in the Libertadores, defeat in the Copa do Brasil final and performance below expectations in the Brasileirão.
