Gerson will need to undergo surgery due to kidney infection. The player underwent further tests and was diagnosed with hydronephrosis in the kidney region. The expectation of Flamengo's medical department is that the number 20 will carry out the procedure this week.

Last Sunday (18), Gerson complained of severe pain in the abdominal region and was released training to carry out initial exams at a hospital in Barra da Tijuca, West Zone of Rio de Janeiro. Thus, a kidney infection was found, and the player had to be hospitalized. However, after being discharged from hospital on Tuesday (21), the athlete returned to complain about the same problems.

According to information from GE, doctors concluded that the medication was not enough to cure renal hydronephrosis. Therefore, the team treating the player opted for a surgical procedure in the region of infection.

As he will undergo surgery, Gerson is absent from Flamengo for an indefinite period of time. This is because the athlete's return to the field depends on how his recovery will be. Therefore, the midfielder is certain to be absent for the remainder of the Carioca Championship. Rubro-Negro has at least four more games in the competition: the last two rounds of the Guanabara Cup and the semifinals. However, if they advance, Mais Querido still has six matches for the state tournament.

WITHOUT GERSON…

Tite used De La Cruz as second steering wheel in the game in which Gerson was absent. The Uruguayan formed a pair with Igor Jesus against Boavista, but will play with Erick Pulgar in the Fla-Flu classic this Sunday (25).

Flamengo and Fluminense face each other in the tenth and penultimate round of the Guanabara Cup, at 4pm (Brasília time) this Sunday (25).

Alex Sandro and Plata, debutants in last Sunday's classic, remain in the team after having good performances in the draw against Vasco. Gabigol is now out of the relationship due to fibrosis in the posterior muscle of his right thigh. Flamengo, in a statement, reported that the athlete did not suffer any injury in the region. Check it out:

"The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo informs that the athlete Gabriel Barbosa underwent tests that did not diagnose an injury to the posterior muscle of his right thigh. However, the Technical Committee opted for precaution and did not list him for the duel against Peñarol due to fibrosis in the region. Gabi is handed over to physiotherapists and physical trainers for the series of decisive games of the season."
