In an open letter published on its website, John Textor, owner of Sociedade Anônima do Futebol (SAF) of Botafogo, proposed a technological innovation for Brazilian football: the implementation of automated VAR. In addition, he was willing to finance the installation of high-resolution cameras in all stadiums that host Serie A matches of the Brazilian Championship.

Textor was committed to obtaining and providing free licensing of the technology Automated VAR to the competent football authorities in Brazil. This system is capable of detecting, through high-resolution computer vision, the behavior and movement of players and referees in every millisecond of the match. The idea is that this technology will not only help deter suspicious acts, but also improve accuracy in making difficult decisions during games.

TEXTOR WANTS TO INVEST

"I am committed to obtaining and grant free licensing of technology Automated VAR to the competent authorities of Brazilian football. I also undertake to mediate the process of installing up to 11 cameras with this technology in all football stadiums that host Series A matches of the Brazilian Football Championship. Football", wrote Textor. He highlighted that this new technology could provide stricter control and greater transparency in sporting events.

Textor's proposal comes at a time when refereeing in Brazilian football has been widely criticized for errors and decisions controversial. The introduction of an automated VAR promises to bring more precision and fairness to the game, minimizing human interference and judgment errors.

Speculated as a possible reinforcement of Flamengo to fill the gap left by Pedro, striker Anthony Martial is free on the market, but has not played since December 9, 2023. On that occasion, Manchester United, his former club, entered the field to face Bournemouth and lost 3-0 in the Premier League. Martial was a starter and played for 56 minutes.

At the beginning of the year, the French striker suffered a groin injury that required surgery. Therefore, he was away for around 42 days, only returning in March. Even though there were three months left on his contract, Manchester United chose to let go of the player. Since then, Martial has been evaluating his next club and Flamengo is paying attention to his movements.

Just like Flamengo, Anthony Martial suffered from injuries in 2023/24. The star had several physical problems that kept him away from the field for a total of 60 days. Due to muscle pain, the player was not available for United in 12 matches last season.

Status of the deal between Flamengo and Anthony Martial

If the If Flamengo is really interested in the Frenchman, they will have to race against time and agree on the signing by Monday (9). Registration for free players is closing. According to Italian journalist Luca Bendoni, who works at the Gianluca Dimarzio portal, the deal could come to fruition soon.

Offered to Flamengo by his staff, Martial also had a drop in his personal numbers. In the 2022/23 season, the player scored six goals and provided two assists in the Premier League. In 2023/24, it was just one goal and no pass that resulted in the ball in the opponents' net.
