0Flamengo signed Matias Viña for the 2024 season last week, after weeks of negotiations and even evaluating other players for the position. One of the names analyzed by Mengão was Wendell, left back from Porto (POR). The position was one of Mengo's priorities after Filipe Luís' retirement at the end of last year.
Despite contact from Flamengo, Wendell showed no interest in returning to Brazilian football at this time. The 30-year-old player is in his third season at Porto and has a contract until June 2025. So, with the player's refusal, Rubro-Negro focused on signing Matias Viña from Roma (ITA). 'GE' brought information about Fla's interest in the athlete.
Born in Fortaleza, Wendell turned professional at Londrina in 2012. However, the player's greatest highlight in Brazil was wearing the Grêmio shirt , in 2014. The good season caught the attention of Bayer Levekusen (ALE), where the full-back played for seven seasons. Now, since 2021/2022, the Brazilian has been playing for Porto.
At the Portuguese club, Wendell has six goals and eight assists in 88 games. The full-back is an absolute starter and found the back of the net twice last week, in Porto's 5-0 defeat of Moreirense (POR), in the Portuguese Championship. Furthermore, the athlete played the entire match last Sunday (28), against Farense (POR).
