Grêmio is making plans for next season, although it is currently focused on the final stretch of Série A of the Brazilian Championship, where it seeks to secure a place in the next edition of the Copa Libertadores da América. The Tricolor Gaúcho board is eyeing the possibility of strengthening the squad for 2024, especially considering some potential departures at the end of this year.

One sector that is attracting special attention is Grêmio's defense. Some of the current defenders of the team led by Renato Portaluppi have not shown convincing performances, which raises the possibility of hiring a new defender to reinforce the sector in the future.

In this context, the name of Rodrigo Caio appears as one option. The defender's contract with Flamengo is coming to an end, and his future at the Rio club is shrouded in uncertainty. Speculation suggests that he is unlikely to remain at Flamengo, especially with the arrival of Tite as coach.

In light of this scenario, Grêmio is closely monitoring the defender's situation. His possible departure from Rio de Janeiro could make room for his arrival in Porto Alegre. It is worth remembering that Caio is physically well and is not listed due to technical options.

In addition to his talent as a defender, Rodrigo Caio also maintains a good relationship with coach Renato, which could facilitate his integration into the team. Grêmio's board is closely monitoring this market opportunity and is evaluating the possibility of counting on the experienced defender as a valuable reinforcement for the 2024 season.

Gabriel Barbosa, known as Gabigol, signed a sponsorship contract with Mizuno, becoming the new ambassador for the Japanese brand. After more than a decade with Nike, the Flamengo striker signed a six-year agreement with Mizuno. According to journalist Carolina Alberti, from UOL, Gabigol is the first Brazilian athlete to form a partnership with the company.

Mizuno's general manager, Rogério Barenco, explained the reasons behind choosing Gabigol to represent the brand, highlighting the visibility and striking personality of the number 99, both on and off the field. The player himself announced the new sponsorship on his Instagram profile.

“We found in Gabriel this issue of determination, of the search for excellence. We understand that he is an athlete who brings these values. Our slogan within Mizuno is reach beyond, and Gabriel certainly brings us this value”, said the manager.

“In addition to having this great strength within from the field, he also has a lot of strength off the field. […] Gabriel is a very authentic guy, he has his own style, and his influence transcends football. People are seeing him on his social media, how he dresses, how he behaves. We will also be working on him using Mizuno on a daily basis”, continued Rogério.

Gabigol gave tips about the new agreement with Mizuno

Before the official announcement, Gabigol had already raised speculation by posting enigmatic content on social media, with some publications making reference to Japan. These posts fueled rumors of a possible agreement with an Asian brand.

Barenco also commented on the great repercussion of the publications by the red-and-black idol, highlighting the positive impact on the Japanese brand.

“That’s exactly the noise we want to have. And I think this is one of the things that most led us to close this contract with him. The people, the fans, the football community, journalists, everyone watching what Gabriel is doing. He draws the spotlight to him. And we are happy with the repercussion”, said the brand representative.

HOW IS HE? FLAMENGO IDOL EXPERIENCES A MOMENT OF INSTABILITY IN THE CURRENT CLUB

At the end of the 2023 season, Flamengo did not reach a renewal agreement with Rodrigo Caio, thus ending the cycle of a successful player within the club. During his time at Mengo, the "Sheriff" lifted the 2019 and 2022 Libertadores cups, the 2019 and 2020 Brazilian Cups, the 2022 Copa do Brasil, and the 2020 Recopa Sul-Americana, in addition to two Brazilian Super Cups (2020 and 2021 ) and three Cariocas (2019, 2020 and 2021).

In June, Grêmio announced the signing of the 30-year-old defender, with Rodrigo Caio reuniting with Renato Gaúcho, who led Flamengo for a large part of the 2021 season. The defender signed a productivity contract with Grêmio until December 2024, but his little use raises doubts about a possible renewal.

So far, Rodrigo Caio has been listed in just seven Brasileirão games for Grêmio, without being a starter in any of them. His only opportunity on the field was against Palmeiras, in the 14th round, where he came on in the 28th minute of the second half, acting improvised in place of Cristaldo.

A little hope for an extension of the link with Grêmio is due to the fact that Renato Gaúcho rotates the defense, but only uses Geromel, Kannemann, Rodrigo Ely and the young Gustavo Martins. This has further limited Rodrigo Caio's chances of establishing himself in the Tricolor Gaúcho starting lineup.

Perhaps a new opportunity will arise for the defender in the Grêmio game this Sunday (14), against Operário, in the third phase of the Copa do Brasil. The match will take place at 11 am (Brasília time), at the Centenário Stadium, and could be a chance for Rodrigo Caio to show his value and seek more space in the Grêmio squad.
