Former Flamengo coach and champion of Brazilian in 2020 , Rogério Ceni returns to face the red and black team this Thursday (20), now as coach of Bahia. Before the clash for the Brazilian Championship, the former goalkeeper commented on the home team's favoritism and highlighted that he will not be on defense.
— I've never seen someone play against Flamengo at Maracanã and be a favorite. Even with the absences due to the Copa América, it's still great. It's a team that is very strong in the air, with three defenders, Léo Ortiz as a midfielder and Pedro. It's a team that, even with its absences, still has a lot of quality — said Rogério Ceni.
— We're not going there just to stay on defense. If so, it's not even worth going. They are favorites, but nothing stops us from having a good game against them. Let's try to make our best version. Bahia is third in the Brazilian Championship with 18 points, the same than Flamengo, but loses in the tiebreaker criteria. Furthermore, the team led by coach Rogério Ceni scored 13 goals, being the third best attack, behind only the red-black team itself and Botafogo, with 16, and São Paulo, with 14.
Flamengo is also going through a good phase. Despite numerous absences, the red-black team managed a draw against Athletico-PR last Sunday (16). Furthermore, Mengo has not lost in six games, with five wins, including two qualifications in the Copa do Brasil and the Libertadores.
The teams play the first game of the quarterfinals at 7 p.m.

Tite defined Flamengo and announced the 11 starters who will face Peñarol, this Thursday, at Maracanã, at 7pm. De la Cruz returns to the starting lineup in place of Léo Ortiz, and Alex Sandro and Plata were retained. The duel with the Uruguayans is the first between the teams in the quarter-finals of the Copa Conmebol Libertadores.

Alex Sandro and Plata, debutants in last Sunday's classic, remain in the team after having good performances in the draw against Vasco. Gabigol is now out of the relationship due to fibrosis in the posterior muscle of his right thigh. Flamengo, in a statement, reported that the athlete did not suffer any injury in the region. "The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo informs that the athlete Gabriel Barbosa underwent tests that did not diagnose an injury to the posterior muscle of his right thigh. However, the Technical Committee opted for precaution and did not list him for the duel against Peñarol due to fibrosis in the region. Gabi is handed over to physiotherapists and physical trainers for the series of decisive games of the season."

Red-and-black striker is the target of speculation in the transfer market

This Monday (16), rumors emerged involving Bahia's interest in signing Gabigol, striker from Mais Querido. According to the channel Paparazzo Rubro-Negro, Tricolor de Aço would have entered the dispute for Gabigol, who has a contract with Flamengojust until December this year. In addition to Bahia, clubs such as Corinthians, Cruzeiro, Grêmio, Palmeiras and Santos would also be keeping an eye on the player.
Despite the speculation, the Bahia board was quick to deny any ongoing negotiations to count on the shirt 99 from Mengão. According to the club's leadership, there is no intention of repeating an operation similar to that carried out with Everton Ribeiro.
As soon as news of the supposed interest began to circulate, Bahia tried to clarify the situation. In a statement, the club's senior management stated that there are no negotiations to sign Gabigol for next season. The information of possible interest, therefore, was directly denied by Tricolor's directors.
Even so, the attacker remains one of the most targeted names in the transfer market for 2025, as he is in the final stretch of contract with Flamengoand you can now sign a pre-contract with any other team.
With Bahia's denial, Corinthians remains the main favorite to sign Gabigol from next year. The possibility of the red-black striker wearing the Timão shirt gains strength, especially after coach Tite appointed Gabigol as the third option for Mengão's attacking command, behind Pedro and Bruno Henrique.
