Last Saturday (10), Flamengo beat Volta Redonda 3-0, in a delayed match of the 3rd round of the 2024 Carioca Championship. Rubro-negro's goals were scored by Gabigol, Pedro and Ayrton Lucas. After the confrontation, Tite held a press conference. The coach selected Mengão with a mixed team and gave Victor Hugo the opportunity to be a starter. But, Tite revealed that he made a mistake with the player and apologized.

“I have to make an apology. I harmed Victor Hugo. I gave him a role that is unusual, not his best. Sometimes you want to give athletes opportunities. I thought: let me see him as the second central midfielder with De la Cruz further ahead”, said Tite and continued:

“And it’s not his position. The coaching staff and I made a mistake. I apologize, we understand the performance. He is 10, 7 or 11 recomposition. I have to be fair. this will leave me alone, he has to know and his family has to know”, concluded the coach.

Victor Hugo is a member of Flamengo's youth teams and made, against Volta Redonda, the his second game this season. Last year, the attacking midfielder played 46 games, scored two goals and provided two assists.

Speculated as a possible reinforcement of Flamengo to fill the gap left by Pedro, striker Anthony Martial is free on the market, but has not played since December 9, 2023. On that occasion, Manchester United, his former club, entered the field to face Bournemouth and lost 3-0 in the Premier League. Martial was a starter and played for 56 minutes.

At the beginning of the year, the French striker suffered a groin injury that required surgery. Therefore, he was away for around 42 days, only returning in March. Even though there were three months left on his contract, Manchester United chose to let go of the player. Since then, Martial has been evaluating his next club and Flamengo is paying attention to his movements.

Just like Flamengo, Anthony Martial suffered from injuries in 2023/24. The star had several physical problems that kept him away from the field for a total of 60 days. Due to muscle pain, the player was not available for United in 12 matches last season.

Status of the deal between Flamengo and Anthony Martial

If the If Flamengo is really interested in the Frenchman, they will have to race against time and agree on the signing by Monday (9). Registration for free players is closing. According to Italian journalist Luca Bendoni, who works at the Gianluca Dimarzio portal, the deal could come to fruition soon.

Offered to Flamengo by his staff, Martial also had a drop in his personal numbers. In the 2022/23 season, the player scored six goals and provided two assists in the Premier League. In 2023/24, it was just one goal and no pass that resulted in the ball in the opponents' net.

Flamengo was highlighted as the club with the most expensive squad in all of America, according to a recent study by the CIES Football Observatory, released this Wednesday (04). The Rio club disbursed a total of 208 million euros, approximately R$1.3 billion, in player transfers, including amounts spent on loans and extras. This value places Flamengo in 43rd position among the most expensive squads in the world.

OTHER BRAZILIAN CLUBS IN THE WORLD RANKING

In addition to Flamengo, other Brazilian clubs also appear in the world rankings. Botafogo occupies 82nd position, having invested around 85 million euros (R$530 million) to assemble its current squad.

Palmeiras, with an expenditure of 77 million euros (R$ 480 million), is in 86th position globally. These numbers highlight the financial strength of Brazilian football on the international stage, with clubs investing heavily to compete in both local tournaments and international competitions.

HIGHLIGHT FOR MEXICAN AND ARGENTINE CLUBS

In America, in addition to Flamengo and Botafogo, Tigres do México appears as the second most spending club in the region, with 103 million euros (R$ 642 million) invested in its cast.

Other Latin American clubs on the list include River Plate, from Argentina, and three other Mexican clubs: Monterrey, Cruz Azul and América. This data reinforces the growing competitiveness of Mexican and Argentine football in terms of investment in signings.

CHELSEA IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE CLUB IN THE WORLD

On the global stage, Chelsea, from England, leads the ranking with an impressive 1.26 billion euros (almost R$10 billion) spent on transfers. The London club is followed by Manchester United, with 1.03 billion euros, and Manchester City, with 1.01 billion euros.

Among the top ten clubs on the list, seven are from the English Premier League, highlighting the financial dominance of English clubs in world football. Paris Saint-Germain, in sixth place, is the first club outside England to appear in the ranking, followed by giants such as Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Newcastle and Juventus.
