Flamengo and Fluminense faced each other this Saturday (11), in the 34th round of the Brazilian Championship. In the confrontation, it was a 1-1 draw. Before the ball rolled, however, the red and black fans provoked the tricolor rival, with shouts of “three-time champion” and a mosaic with the main trophies of Clube da Gávea.

As the players entered the field, Flamengo fans walked up a mosaic with eight trophies from the Brazilian Championship, four from the Copa do Brasil, three from the Libertadores da América and the Club World Cup. Furthermore, red and black plaques were raised, forming a panel with the colors of the Most Wanted. “TRICAMPEÃO”

In addition to the mosaic with the achievements history of Flamengo, the red and black fans had to use their voices to respond to the Tricolores' provocations. This is because Fluminense fans shouted: “Libertadores have never seen Maraca”. Therefore, the Flamengo fans shouted: “three-time champion”, making references to Mais Querido's three achievements in the continental tournament, while the rival from Rio only has one.

The provocation between the Flamengo and Fluminense fans is not for less'. This is because the Libertadores is the main continental tournament. Therefore, Mais Querido wants to finish the Brazilian Championship among the top four, to guarantee a direct place in the next edition of the competition.

For this reason, Flamengo returns to the field on Thursday (23), when they face Red Bull Bragantino, in a game postponed from the 30th round of the Brazilian Championship. Therefore, from 9:30 pm (Brasília time), the teams will face each other at Maracanã.

On Thursday night (19), Flamengo hosted Peñarol at Maracanã for the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Copa Libertadores da América and came out with an unfavorable result. In front of more than 64 thousand fans, the team led by Tite had several opportunities, but failed to score.

The Uruguayan team took advantage of one of the few chances and, with a goal from Cabrera, secured a 1-0 victory. Now, Mengão will need to reverse the deficit in the second leg, scheduled for next Thursday- fair (26), in Montevideo.

This Thursday's defeat puts the Rio team in a delicate situation. To guarantee qualification to the semi-finals, Mais Querido will need to win by two goals at the Campeón del Siglo Stadium. A simple victory will take the decision to penalties, while any other score guarantees Peñarol's place. The result was even more painful for the club, as Flamengo has not lost at Maracanã in Libertadores competitions since 2019, also to Peñarol.

DIRECT CONFRONTATION BETWEEN FLAMENGO AND PEÑAROL

The return game is full of expectations, mainly due to the historic rivalry between the two teams in the South American competition. The winner of this duel will face, in the semifinals, the winner of the clash between Botafogo and São Paulo. On the other side of the bracket, there are River Plate (Argentina), Colo-Colo (Chile), Fluminense and Atlético-MG, which makes the path to the final even more competitive.
